Keep Gus and Dave

Quote:I'm not claiming they have Pro-Bowl or All-Pro game changing talent just yet.  But I do believe that Caldwell has matured/learned as a GM in his time with the Jags.  I think he's doing much better today then when he started.  I think there is raw talent on the roster that can develop into solid starters at a minimum.

In short, I think DC is worthy to be an NFL GM and if we fired him I'm confident he'd have other teams calling him up (unlike Jeans Miff).  There are still shortcomings on this team but I think we will have a well rounded roster going into next season.  If you took out the injuries now, I think it'd be fair to call out roster decent and with a good HC we would probably be 3-2 or 4-1.
That is whats so damn frustrating about GB. You could point to 8-10 games a year where he makes a serious blunder via blowing timeouts, not calling timeouts, bad challenges, etc. That and we NEVER look like we are in position on defense and this is his specialty????? You put a coach like Jeff Fisher or Marvin Lewis on this team and we are 4-1 right now and the Clots are cellar dwellers with the rest of the AFCS. At worst 3-2.Yes, players not plays, but the coaches have to prepare those players and use their strengths to put them in position to succeed. Gus and co. do none of the above, just suck.

Even better, name 5 that have come out since Dave took over as GM.  Everyone you mentioned has been in the league before then.

I would put Julius Thomas on that list, wouldn't you?  Also, all but what one(Beckham) were all drafted before Caldwell took the helm.  I think your expectations are a little skewed.

Mario Williams? Brandon Marshall? Levonte David? Maybe you need to include your definition of transcendent.

Along with Marks if we're including some of these guys.

BEEP BEEP BEEP

you know exactly what i mean....don't try to take issue now.

You asked for 32 transcendent(in other words, game changers) players

the fact that you don't think Lavonte David, Brandon Marshall, and MArio Williams belong is enough to let me know that you aren't paying attention, pal

I don't think you can go on the archives and find the better players that were drafted after you drafted an ordinary player. Overall we have to look whether the GM is drafting with some philosophy or not.  I think Caldwell is doing it. I would keep caldwell for sure.  Gus will evaluated end of the year and if I see progress, I'll keep Gus as well.

Marshall is like one of only two WRs in league history with 5 100+ catch seasons

I still have faith in Dave.  And, I'm not a "fire the coach!!" guy........have supported riding with Gus.  But, not anymore.  In retrospect, if you're building a team from the ground up with youth, you can't have a young (in terms of tenure) coach who's still learning on the job how to be a head coach.  A team of first-year and second-year players, etc needs a strong, experienced, tough head coach to mold them.

Keep Dave.  Fire Gus after the season (unless dramatic improvement arrives)

It would be nice to have a head coach who has some kind of competitive advantage over other teams, and maybe a GM that didn't fatally screw a team by stripping it down past expansion level talent.

I say keep both Dave and Gus until at least 2020 to give them a fair chance to fix things.

After all, it takes at least 10 years to really rebuild a team.  There is no such thing as a quick turn around in the NFL.

I totally see your points in wanting to keep him and Im not one to be on the total hate train but if he does stay the rest of the season and he doesnt get more wins I can clearly see him leaving.  He may go before the end of the season maybe. Which I hate when teams fire mid season but thats just me.

I do agree we have seen improvements all around and our bad luck is huge, bad calls by the refs and growing pains but other teams have the same issues and still find ways to win(like the bucs and even Colts last week) so if we cant seem to fix these issues something does need to happen.

Im so twisted on this as I am loosing all faith in Gus but at the same time I see the pros of keeping him and even the few improvements which others ignore considering we still find ways to lose.
