Jags Sign Tyrus Thompson to Practice Squad

Jordan Tripp was a small school LB that exhibited very good speed. He was a player that I was eyeing in the 2014 draft.

Quote:Interesting draft write-ups such as this... Sounds like a guy worth taking a risk on, and he might have grown as he's still young enough to grown another inch.
Regarding Jordan Tripp, he was the 31st pick in Rd 5 for the Dolphins in the 2014 draft.
He ran a 4.67/40 at the combine. More information about him can be found here: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014/profiles/j...id=2543735 Also check out the video of his combine workout. He is a core special teams player. Here is what The Phinsider said about Jordan Tripp this summer while reviewing the roster http;//www.thephinsider.com/2015/7/1/8868067/90-in-90-breaking-down-the-miami-dolphins-roster-jordan-tripp-koa-misi-chris-mccain
Another blurp about Jordan Tripp as of 7 weeks ago in the Dolphins mini-camps.

Good tackles with size don't often get cut, and they definitely don't make it through waivers. Tyrus did. He must need a lot of development.

From what I read, the Vikings were trying to cross train him at OG and Tyrus did not adjust well to moving inside.
The Vikings drafted three OTs in 2015, one from Pittsburgh in the 4th, one from Oklahoma in the 6th and one from Alabama in the 7th. The Vikings also drafted a tackle (Yankey) from Cal (I think) in the 2014 draft class. A team can only keep so many OTs. Also, Thompson suffered a concussion playing OG in the Vikings last preseason game, so he was placed on IR by the Vikings. After he got out of the concussion protocol, the Vikings needed the practice squad space for some other position so they let Thompson walk. The Jags signed him two days later. If he does something for the Jags that would be great. If he fails then the Jags have risked almost nothing other than one of ten practice squad positions. I think the kid needs a lot of good coaching and he should get it here with Doug Marrone. The Jags released an OT to sign Thompson to the practice squad.
As far as Tripp goes, I remember seeing him at the combine and being very unimpressed.
Jordan Tripp is an intriguing prospect who may flourish in our system. At the very least he provides depth as a special teams core guy and as a backup will backer and nickle backer.
Respect the game. Play with a sense of urgency.
1.) Take care of the ball. Win the turnover battle. 2.) It's all about 3rd down. Win on 3rd down to win the game. 3.) Playmakers make plays. The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays. Learn from the great collapse of 2023. |
