PFF Grades

Quote:You watch the game or no?Of course I saw the game. Bortles threw an easy INT that was dropped, and barely managed to complete 54% of his passes despite clean protection for the majority of the game. He also lead only 1 scoring drive (GW FG) and 6 punts in the second half. Quote:Nope. I would still think it was horse [BAD WORD REMOVED]. So explain your reasoning. PFF "Pro Football Focus has partnered with the Pro Coach Network to ensure that we are delivering the most accurate and reliable statistics to our users. Pro Coach Network consists of 28 former and current pro and college coaches with more than 750 years of combined coaching experience." Pretty good coaches....who have to work as gophers for PFF. Ultimately, the game play takes are subjective thus the stats are equally subjective. I will take the opinions of the coaches calling the plays for the Jags over anyone else. Quote:So explain your reasoning. Where are the flaws in the methodology and how the stats are constructed and applied? Game play scoring is subjective and thus the stats are subjective. The reviewers have no way of knowing the assignments or the play designs by the coaches to give an accurate assessment of how the players performed.
Quote:Their "statistics" are just opinions. Yep those 17 NFL teams like opinions over actual game stats see below link PFF https://www.profootballfocus.com/about/how-we-grade/
Like these opinions of offensive, defensive, and special teams reports, that detail:
I am just a fan sitting in the stands week after week year after year Quote:Game play scoring is subjective and thus the stats are subjective. The reviewers have no way of knowing the assignments or the play designs by the coaches to give an accurate assessment of how the players performed.Yep you nailed it.A collective offensive line could play their protection perfectly against the defense and yet individual players on the line could receive negative grades for the very same play. Quote:Yep those 17 NFL teams like opinions over actual game stats see below link But again. That doesn't mean anything. Two NFL teams have paid Josh McCown to be their starting quarterback. Why should I trust their opinion. Quote:Yep those 17 NFL teams like opinions over actual game stats see below linkAn unbiased opinion on why PFF IS so good as explained by...PFF.... Quote:Of course I saw the game. Bortles threw an easy INT that was dropped,That happens. It was also in a situation where the Dolphins were playing for the pass and it was questionable if Bortles should have been passing at all. That goes to play calling. Quote:and barely managed to complete 54% of his passes despite clean protection for the majority of the game.Because of drops and Yeldon running into Robinson. He had 2 or 3 inaccurate throws but also about 3 or 4 drops and that Yeldon defensive play on A-Rob. Also one of his passes was batted on a bootleg. Quote:He also lead only 1 scoring drive (GW FG) and 6 punts in the second half.Gee, that will happen when you run the ball 2 out of 3 or even every down and only gain 2 yards per attempt and have receivers dropping balls. "A man with no sauce is lost.

But that same man can get lost in the sauce."
Quote:Pretty good coaches....who have to work as gophers for PFF.It has been rumored that Jags are one of the 17 NFL teams using PFF so maybe the Jags coaches do. Stats and Stat analysis has been used by NFL coaches for decades the only difference is with the advances in technology outsiders can provide statistical analysis also. NFL teams who do utilize PFF can ask PFF for analysis that fits what they want specifically for Jags players and for opponents players and is able to be delivered in 24 hours which helps NFL staffs to utilize game stats more to their advantage. All of this is over and above what the NFL team does internally. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Game play scoring is subjective and thus the stats are subjective. The reviewers have no way of knowing the assignments or the play designs by the coaches to give an accurate assessment of how the players performed. The whole content of human experience is subjective. The problem you raised is no more true that the problems that have been true of empirical inquiry for thousands of years. All analysis is simply a system constructed based on rules and parameters and the results only make sense within that context. If they do it in the hard sciences like physics, why is it such a problem in football? I never said stats were definitive, just that they can aid in telling the story of how players performed. Quote:That happens. It was also in a situation where the Dolphins were playing for the pass and it was questionable if Bortles should have been passing at all. That goes to play calling. I don't understand your argument. You mean to tell me that the stats are an accurate representation of the miscues that occurred on the field? I counted 16 second half passes to only 13 runs, and only remember 2 easy drops that stood out (Greene). The near pick was a poor decision by Bortles, not the coaching staff.
Quote:An unbiased opinion on why PFF IS so good as explained by...PFF.... I didn't catch the teams and the years of coaching all of the experts on the forum have been employed by. All PFF users who decide to utilize their stats are saying is it is another tool for whoever wants to utilize it over and above in house stat analysis. After all the forum coaches post your resume's with contact info of the NFL teams so it can be verified maybe you could use your contacts in the NFL to find out why those NFL teams use PFF. Again I only slept in a Holiday Inn Express last night so this info is only good until Midnight.
PFF is always terrible, until they post positives of the team, then they're quoted by everyone on here as a credible source lol.
Haha! They are killing PFF on Jaguars Monday right now. Boselli quotes:

How can an offense get close to 400 yards, score 23 points, allow 0 sacks, and most of the offensive line played poorly?
HUH!?!?

Classic Big Bo when someone doesn't agree with him there is no way they could be right. Earlier this season someone(may have been Prosser)was quoting two Head Coaches who earlier in their careers were O line coaches who had disagreed with Bo and he got all upset and threatened to bet them big time. The person then made a comment Bo never pays when he loses so no bet.

Quote:It isn't about winning or losing but sometimes the stat analysis can explain it...it is analysis of individual stat's and it isn't perfect just another tool in the tool box Well like I said, maybe this individual analysis of this stuff is pointless in a team sport because it obviously isn't working. Our offensive line allowed us to score 23 points, got 400 yards, and kept our QB clean. It wasn't perfect by any means, but how can most of them be negative?? How is Roy Miller negative in his run stuffing? How is Blake Bortles ranked lower this week than he was in week 1?
