BB5's Footwork and Pocket Prescence...

Quote:I absolutely agree. Two games though is a small sample size to predict how he'll do this year. I have a feeling we'll see some good days and some head scratching days from Bortles in 2015, maybe his whole career. Hopefully he'll start stringing together more good than bad moments.
We can expect atleast 3 to 4 errant throws a game. Patriots will force him into some, and some of the guys on this message board will call him Blaine Bortles again.

It is a small sample, but Bortles rebounded against a very good Dolphins defense and had a huge day. That's important.  It builds confidence against stronger opponents the team faces moving forward.  He's still a young QB, but the progress is there.  No doubt, there will be rough patches ahead as he faces things he hasn't seen before, but I think we've seen that he won't be rattled by it now.

It's a very small minority that brings that kind of clownery to these boards. It is funny (and predictable) how they are nowhere to be found today.

Quote:And that pick 6 was more of an anomaly than the standard.  He made a bad read.  It happens.

Anomaly? How many pick 6 did he have as a rookie? He goes through progressions better as a rookie than David did as an 8-year vet, but let's not pretend that Blake doesn't (or didn't) have issues with staring receivers down and getting his throw taken to the house.

Also. It's crazy how well a QB can play when he is not getting sacked every other drop back.

His pocket awareness was unbelievable yesterday

Quote:There have actually been people on this board referring to Blake as "Blaine" Bortles. I just don't see it. Even as a rookie, Blake has had more pocket presence than Gabbert ever did. Gabbert's first inclination was to either bail due to phantom pressure or simply go down with no pass rush around him.

Even when Blake leaves the pocket, you can see that his eyes are downfield and he's trying to pass. When there's no viable receiver, he takes off. When he stays in the pocket, he's very fluid and works the entire pocket. I'm right proud of the strides he's made. Looks franchise to me.

Yeah, I never understood the "Blaine Bortles" put down. Bortles doesn't curl up in a fetal position when faced with a pass rush.

Big difference between his rookie year and this season, but hey, cling to it if you must.

That certainly helps things considerably.  Losing Joeckel last week didn't help, but his backup, who looked like a turnstile vs. Carolina redeemed himself admirably against a much better pass rush in the Dolphins.

Major credit to both Linder and Wiz for making Suh pretty much a non-factor in the game as well.

He looked great and has improved a lot from last season. The only problem I see is that he stares down the receivers.

I'm sorry but him throwing picks sixes is not an anomaly whatsoever by any way shape or means

he should have been picked off yesterday too in a ball he literally threw right to the guy which had blockers in front of him possibly meaning another pick 6

Quote:A more appropriate mocking nickname would be Byron Bortles because Leftwich was a guy who was always looking down the field trying to make a play as he waited for his snail-like receivers to get open. Bortles has the physicality and mobility of Garrard with the football IQ of Leftwich, in addition to having the ability to transform his mechanics, which Byron refused to do.

Last week the trail of tears crowd was declaring him a bust. They've been eerily silent since around 7:30 last night.

They'll be back next week after they've finished their helping of crow. Hopefully a few of them learned and don't repeat mistakes like children.

Side note: How does Linder NOT make the pro-bowl this year if he starts all 16? He took out Suh. If he handles Watt both times like he did last season (when Watt went inside). Pro bowl.

Can't wait to see whats next.

There's one thing that's a guarantee.  Those who were served their crow this week will be right back at it with the usual routine next week.  They don't learn lessons.

Because he's a Jaguar and when thats the case, you need to be leagues ahead of even the best at the position to be considered a possibility.

Like I said.  The trail of tears crowd is now forced to live in the shoulda, woulda, coulda domain.  They can't be happy with a win.  They must find something to grind over.

FYI, how many actual picks did Bortles throw?

Go curl up in the fetal position in a corner and wait for next Sunday.  Get plenty of rest in the hope the Jags lose next week so you'll be able to spring into action.

Well, you already know how it will play out lol.  I already expect it to be alot about how bad the Pats defense is so why didn't we score more points against there D than MIA.  it will be an irrational badgering by "non-football" experts who see the stats and not the team overall and believe that with an talent starved Defense the Jags should score a record amount of points and so on and so forth.

I dont think they can ignore a Jaguar who can stonewall players that are considered the best at their position. Its up to Linder to keep doing it.

Quote:So much for him being scared in the pocket.

I don't know what was going on last week. Maybe it was a case of nerves? He looked much more like the Bortles we saw during the preseason, responding well to pressure and not letting anything get to him.

My guess is he was probably putting a little too much pressure on himself to start off with a win.

He looked substantially better. The whole offense did.

Even though the dolphins did a good job at shutting down the run, the jaguars showed that they have faith in yeldon too.

I hope it keeps going this direction.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
