TJ Yeldon vs Ameer Abdullah
|
Quote:Sometimes rookie RBs look fantastic right from the start. Some look terrific early and stay terrific. Some look terrific early but start to struggle as the season progresses. People were disappointed in Taylor his first preseason. He couldn't beat our James Stewart. Then Stewart got hurt and Taylor's first game he had something like a 60 yard TD and the rest is history.

Ameer is buried behind Joique AND Theo....
don't be so cocky...lol Yeldon is going to be a prem-o back, Ameer is going to be a #2 in a committee when all is said and done. D-Rob and Toby will be role players for us. Much like Theo and Ameer will be behind Joique.
Ameer is going to be hurt and injured often while Yeldon will be accumulating yards and tds.

Freddie T was on the verge of being labeled a bust ......Remember Year 2 (1999) when he had 732 yards rushing and Year 4 (2001) when he had 116 yards rushing. Things were not looking good that that time !!!

I also remember when he had like an 80 yard TD run to win the game from behind in the closing minutes against Tampa in 98. I miss Fred. We show less advertisements to registered users. That was because of injury. When he played, he was great. I remember a Monday night game against Miami. He had a long run to open the game. 70 yards or something like that. And he got hurt and never came back in.

Quote:Why would you "laff" at that? I guess years of being a Jaguars has made me hysterical. Still love em. Quote:Sometimes rookie RBs look fantastic right from the start. I'm sure we all do, but it would be nice to see Yeldon show up the guy many of us had pegged for the pick. But to your point, I distinctly recall many of us wondering if FT would be a bust after his rookie preseason as he literally did jack squat. He'd get the ball and run into a crowd for like one yard. FT didn't even look as good as Gerhart looked last year when he was hurt, and there was no doubt in anyone's mind that James Stewart should start the season. We wondered if FT would even play much his rookie season. Of course we all know what happened week two of the regular season, but that's a different story entirely.

Quote:Ameer is going to be hurt and injured often while Yeldon will be accumulating yards and tds. I doubt that. Did you see how many reps Ameer put up at the combine? His body is as stout and strong as can be for a RB.

After week two of his rookie season, nobody ever mentioned the word bust in relation to Taylor. The worst accolades had to do with him aquiring the Fragile Freddy label, but it was more like "he's so awesome when healthy" than anything else. Going into year four FT was primed to make his first Pro Bowl and was the most feared RB in the league to many. He was BEASTMODE at that moment in time, and if it wasn't for pulling his groin we'd probably be talking about a no brainer first ballot hall of famer.

Quote:Think they wanted a workhorse 3 down back which Yeldon fit better than Ameer This is the key. They felt Yeldon was the more "complete back" and perhaps a better blocker than Abdullah. And isn't Abdullah a little similar in playing style to Robinson ? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Ameer is buried behind Joique AND Theo.... I hope Joique comes off the PUP list soon, to even make this a discussion. Theo is ahead of Ameer on the Lions depth chart but the only reason for that is because the Lions coaches are reluctant to put rookies at the top of the depth chart during the pre-season. Theo Riddick is an excellent receiver and is an improved runner. But it's hard to imagine him having a bigger role on Offense this season than Ameer Abdullah, if the latter remains relatively healthy. I do think there's a good chance T.J. Yeldon will be a feature RB for the Jaguars, with Ameer Abdullah probably not getting as many carries per game. But both RBs have the potential to fill the need the respective teams are looking for, Quote:This is the key. This is my thought process as well. While Ameer Abdullah is a very good inside runner for his size, he doesn't have T.J. Yeldon's size. The Jaguars clearly wanted someone who could compliment Denard Robinson, to be the thunder, with Robinson being the lightning.
Yeldon seems like the more durable stronger guy. Those shifty-speed LeSean McCoy types only last so long. Fun to watch but hard to have a nice career with that style.
No pain, no gain.

Abdullah had a huge run. It looked like every Jaguars defender on the field fell down. He easily looked the better of the two in this game. That said, the OL did not to TY any favors, and our RB is just getting his feet wet. I'm just not at all convinced he should have been the pick over Ameer. Here's hoping TY changes my opinion during the regular season.

"Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot."
