I'm guessing Pierce will take over Gerhart's short-yardage duties for the last two preseason games giving us a chance to see if he's really worth keeping as a 5th RB.

There's a risk.  That abdominal strain could become a sports hernia.  There's no point in pressing it for someone who isn't at risk of losing their job.
