Run clogging by the d line and good/smart plays by the linebackers. How about some aggressive play by our corners too.


I want Bortles and the offense to do well but I'm not going to read into it too much if it's 2 TDs or 3 3 and outs.

Same things we saw at home last week against the Squeelers. Bortles needs his receivers to catch the football when he gets it to them. The running game needs to show up like it did last week and House needs to not get beat and burned on the 1st series. The defense in general needs to show up. We gave up three passes for basically 60 yards and a TD and Big Ben called it a night. I didn't see any push up front at all from the front seven. That needs to improve. Offensively, back to them, just need to see Bortles NOT take any shots OR sacks in this one. That would make me feel a bit better leading up into the regular season. All-in-all. Should be another solid showing.

I want to see the first team D rebound against a first team O.  That first series (only series Big Ben played) was a disaster.  

 

Continue to see Blake, the running game and Oline progress get better.

It wasn't good by any means... but the explosive play on House can't happen. Take away that and maybe we are able to force a field goal.

0 pass rush can't happen (but we had 0 starters on dline)

My point is I'm not reading into it either way too much.  2 TDs and most of the first team offense is done for the day.  3 bad drives and the same.  There is no game planning and it's adjust vanilla defenses.  As long as the players are playing fundamentally sound (catching catchable balls, hitting good holes, blocking appropriately, Bortles making smart plays) and everyone is healthy, there is no reason to overreact. 

 

This offense isn't a world beater and will struggle at times this year, esp against good defenses.  Being consistently above that is our key to success.  Defense, IMO, will much more interested to watch since they'll be playing almost all their starters/contributors unlike the offense.  Thomas/Lee/Yeldon are not getting many snaps if any.

The giants secondary is really thin.. I expect bortles to try to attack that early..

I would love to see a repeat of last year's Jaguars Defensive Line pass rush against the Giants!


The key things I will be looking for in this game are;

 

#1.) Offensive Line improvement especially LT Luke Joeckel - while RT Free Agent Parnell made a couple mistakes like the penalty he drew he played fairly well, Beadles made a mistake or two but the only true failure last week was Luke.  He needs to prove to us fans that he is actually improved during the offseason.

 

#2.) Safety Development -  Now that SS Cyprien is out due to injury will the backfield totally collapse, or can they step it up?

 

#3.) CB play - How does House, Aaron Colvin, McCray play against the Giants mighty WRs & Eli's arm?

 

#4.) RB War - Which Jaguar will emerge as the Ultimate Warrior?

 

#5.) Dline Domination -  Can they win the war at the lines, Odrick will play so should be fun to watch how he does and I'm still interested in Bennett's play later on in the game. Can Capi repeat sacks?

 

#6.) Bortles Mania - I want to see him win it with his arm and not his legs, scares me when he takes chances like that during Preseason.

 

#7.) TE Crush - Please Clay catch the balls this time, can TEs step up with Thomas out due to middle finger injury?

 

#8.) Olson playcalling - I enjoyed watching a glimse of what might come this season, and while I understand if much is vanilla it will be nice to see a few of his plays from the playbook.

 

#9.) Danger Will Robinson - I'm hoping to see him make more spectcular catches than Odell (as long as he doesnt risk getting injured).

 

#10.) Special Teams is special - I want to see that ST has actually improved this year.
