The OP is probably trolling a bit and has too much of his insight from madden.

Those within the organization have been cheerfully boasting about Bortles but I'll believe when I see it on the field in the regular. Gabbert looked good in his preseason work year 2 as well.

Flame me for not being a fan of the team but I really want to see the kid do well. I'm just waiting for him to do it when it counts and consistently.

The last few practices have shown he is vastly improved. He has more zip, shorter motion, and seems more balanced. We'll see if it all holds when the gametime pressure kicks in.

And from Bortles own comments last year, he's usually not very good on practice, he's way better during a real game. So if his improvements at practice now are proportional to his on field improvement, it should be exciting

Not sure what you're seeing.
Not just every single person in the organization.  The vast majority of those who have been in attendance at the first few practices are saying pretty much the same thing.  This idiot is just trolling.  Nothing more.  It's all he knows how to do when mommy and daddy let him on the computer for his hour of the interwebs.

Indeed the highlight video from today shows a much shorter delivery and improved balance. IMO those two issues are two of Bortles worst issues. The long motion telegraphs his intentions and help defenses cause turnovers and decrease separation by knowing the likely route tree being utilized.

Only time will tell if these mechanics will carry on to game time but it looks good. The ball is exploding out of that short motion. It's all above his elbow where it used to be around his waste.

The run game is supposed to be a point of empasis this year. If that can get going like they hope, Bortles arm should be fine. Maintaining better mechanics will certainly help as well.

This, and he didn't have to prep for the draft.  From what I can understand, if you go back to the summer before his last year in college through his last game last year, he was in non stop throwing / training for the college season, then the college season, then draft (with all of the prep, individual workouts, combine etc.) then he got into rookie mini camp, training camp, preseason and the regular season before he got a break.  That couldn't have helped either.

To me it's the mechanics that will prevent his 'arm from deteriorating'. He's not doing that wacky full slingshot from the hip to the point of release to across his body. The ball is staying high and exploding out of the release. That's from the 15 or so throws I've seen from 2015 training camp.

Quote:I think Caldwell is building a good team but the team is only going to be able to go as far as Bortles can take them.  With that said...

It doesn't look like he's improved from last year so far (very early assessment I know).

Either the receivers are still not getting open or he doesn't know how to find (or throw) an open receiver.

His release is slow, the spirals are sloppy and there doesn't look to be much zip on the ball.  The D is all over his passes and the receivers.

My question is how long does DC give Bortles for development/improvemet?  Or we will see Connor Cook (or another top QB prospect) in a Jags jersey next year?
