Quote:This is a very good point actually... One I've thought about for a while. The argument that having guns will help protect us from our government once it becomes tyrannical is an utter joke. I don't care how many people have hand guns and these assault rifles. There's no way the citizenry can compete with tanks, blackhawk helicopters, and our Army, Marines, etc.

The only way to over take the oligarchy is via voting. The 2nd ammendment isn't gonna make us all Rambos so that we can take back our government. Only getting organized and voting can do that.

Sure voting is the preferable solution, just like the Lock on my door is my first option for keeping someone out of my house. When voting no longer works because the system has grown to big and become corrupted beyond control that's like someone kicking in my locked door, that's why I have my rifle as a back up.

If the system becomes too big and corrupted beyond control, wouldn't getting out of the country be the better option?

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Quote:When the people fear government you have tyranny when the government fears the people you have liberty,

When you are so thoroughly disarmed that you don't even know where to get a weapon should you need to defend yourself you are completely dependent on the very institution you hope you'll never need to fear. You'd think with European long history of tyrannical regimes you'd guys have learned that lesson by now?

Edit: meant to qoute lastonealive not you anchorman I know your not european

Its not the government that is feared. It's the military that those that keep getting voted into office bloat with more and more funds for the war machine

I'm sorry, but there's no way that a few people on your block, or even a few thousand people in your city are gonna take down the local SWAT team or national guard.  It's just not going to happen.

But if you want to go down the way the Branch Davidians did, or those guys at Ruby Ridge, go for it.

The government still fears the people so long as we still have the ability to vote.  Yes, the current situation is corrupted to the point that we are all frustrated.  The problem is that we're divided as to how to fix it.

The first step is to see what the actual problem is.

Remember what happened in Egypt?  They took out that government by protesting, not by all the guns they had.  If you get enough people to protest, you don't need the violence.

Serisoulsy, have you ever thought through what would happen if a group tried to take out the US government by force?  It would not happen.  The media would paint them as crazy lunatics and terrorists.  The vast majority of people would buy into that.  And then, the government would roll right over them.  It wouldn't be pretty.  Instead, organize, and go out and vote.

We potentially have the ability to revolutionize the political system every 2 years...   I think we should appreciate that.  Now if we had a situation where the government decided to do away with voting, then I can see the need to look at other avenues.  But again, a peaceful protest of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, would be far more effective then grabbing your small arms (that's what assault weapons and hand guns would be considered) to try and take back the government by force.  A government that invests trillions of dollars into fighting wars.

Well said. And to your point - while the doomsday prepers are worried about finding more ammo, those who understand how a democracy works are rolling all over them - i.e., gay marriage, Obamacare, Barak Obama , and on and on and on ....

And of course many can't lower themselves to actually engage in politics (polemical arguments is more their thing) because the Pure Political Saint has yet to appear. And only that will do. Can't take a risk is supporting someone they may have to defend.

The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.

Quote:Bad Guys don't obey Gun Laws

This is one of the most misleading lines. Other countries show that they do, enough to where gun related deaths are much lower than ours.

I'm all for gun rights and CC, but let's be honest here.  This wasn't just "some civilian".

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.
