Also, you can't just structure the deal to be cap friendly - otherwise the Browns will match. They have more cap space than we do.
So we'd probably have to make Gibson the highest paid safety in the league, AND give up a 2nd to land him... No thanks. Just 2 years ago he was undrafted - not saying that means too much but it shows you that under the right circumstance and right environment, the right player can become much better. If other teams are developing talent, so can we. Also, maybe we should just change our defense a little bit? If FS is such a critical part of the defense, and they are very hard to come by - why not just make them a little less important? Not sure if I'm making sense, but it also doesn't make sense to run a defense where the FS is one of the most critical positions, usually you can have a good defense just by having a decent safety back there. I say just keep getting better at the D-Line and maybe get another playmaking LB to pair with Poz and Telvin. Draft a safety later who could push Cyp or Evans/Brown. Hope our CB crew is improved. That's it.

Former Jaguars CB Rashean Mathis got a well deserved pay raise and a 2 year contract with the Lions today:

It's not likely that Rashean Mathis or any CB is going to become a modern day version of Darrell Green when it comes to playing at a pretty high level around 40. Yet, the way Mathis has performed the last two seasons is more than I ever could have imagined when he signed with the Lions in the middle of the 2013 pre-season, when the team had a problematic CB situation. As well as Mathis produced on the field, his value as a leader and mentor is huge as well. When one looks back at the first 20 seasons in Jaguars history, other than Tony Boselli and Fred Taylor, I think Rashean Mathis ranks in a very select group of players the franchise has had.
Very happy for Rashean.
The best corner we have ever had.

I always felt like Mathis was under appreciated. Glad to see him getting rewarded for his play and hope to see him retire a Jag one day.
Quote:now Bills just need a qb. I think I would take Petty in the 2nd if I were the BillsMy guess is Hundley

Quote:You're giving away a 2nd round pick, and you are helping another AFC team by giving them a 2nd round pick. it's Cleveland, I wouldn't worry too much about that.
Quote:I always felt like Mathis was under appreciated. Glad to see him getting rewarded for his play and hope to see him retire a Jag one day. I don't think he was under appreciated when he was here. People loved that guy. He had some injury issues towards the end of his time here and at times he didn't attack like he once did. That's why people weren't high on him when he left. I have a Rashean jersey....he was a great Jag.

I think the majority loved him, but there was a squeaky sect that had it out for him, especially critical of his tackling. We show less advertisements to registered users. And whatever you do, never mention the thought of moving him back to FS.

looks like bowe to the browns
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Quote:looks like bowe to the browns I just saw an amusing note: in an effort to slow down their offense the Browns sign Dwayne Bowe.

Quote:I don't think he was under appreciated when he was here. People loved that guy. My impression is while most Jaguars fans and those who follow the NFL closely appreciated Rashean Mathis' contribution to the Jaguars during most of his time with the team, overall I thought he was one of the most underrated players in the NFL. I expressed something along these lines on this MB a number of times long before Mathis signed with the Lions. What I wasn't as aware of back then is the tremendous value Mathis provides as a leader. To the point that Lions Defensive Coordinator Teryl Austin describes Mathis as a coach on the field. Quote:Alan Ball signed a 1 year 2 mil contract with the Carolina Panthers According to the following information, the signing could still happen but as of earlier this afternoon, it hasn't yet: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...anthers-3/ |
