I would say it was the best at the time.  Reform was certainly needed, but 0bamacare certainly didn't reform anything of any value.

Precisely.

It did more harm than good.  That's been well documented over and over, and over again.

Quote:The healthiest states in America are mostly in the Northeast: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire score top rankings, while Hawaii is the single healthiest state in the nation, the report finds. It is Hawaii’s fifth consecutive year in the top spot.

The least healthy states are almost entirely in the South. Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia are the 10 least-healthy states in the nation.

The report examines a bevy of health behaviors and outcomes including everything from smoking, drinking and drug-related deaths to high school graduation rates, air pollution and the amount of fruit the average adult consumes per day.

The least-healthy states show both short- and long-term health challenges. Mississippi residents have the lowest access to medical and dental care and some of the highest obesity, smoking and physical inactivity rates in the nation, signs that the current population is at risk of chronic or acute health problems. The state also has some of the highest percentages of children in poverty and lowest rates of immunization, hinting at health problems ahead for the next generation.
Sounds like the perpetual cycle of wealth to health: health effects wealth, wealth effects health. Healthcare needs to be a proactive approach versus reactive for sure.

That's one of the fatal flaws in the left's argument.

Wealthy can afford a nicer home, a nicer car, and nicer vacations than others.

The same is true of health care.

And there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with that.

Just because something exists, doesn't give anyone a "right" to what they cannot afford.  A Camry will affordably, comfortably, and reliably provide transportation just as well as a Rolls Royce does.  We must live within our means.  Forcing people to buy more car than they need at prices they cannot afford is precisely what went wrong in much of the "logic" behind the failed law.

That's one of the things that was so monstrous about 0bamacare (note the sellout lefties have now spun it into ACA to save that failed legacy) is that costs and premiums rose for those who could least afford it.

I think one of the other problems (and a larger part of the problem) is that people don't understand the difference between "health care" and "health insurance".  The two are not the same.  Health insurance shouldn't pay for a pap smear just like auto insurance shouldn't pay for an oil change or homeowner's insurance shouldn't pay to fix a leaking faucet.

Tax free health savings accounts that can be shared within a family and passed on to heirs would be a better solution for health care.

This such a load. Often treatable illness are left unattended because people can't afford the treatments. There is no reason people should suffer because they aren't wealthy enough.

Make it affordable and make it for everyone. Even our current President has stated he would seek to provide Insurance for everybody!

That doesn't mean that some liberal prostitute like Sandra Fluke will get her "free" birth control.

Insurance and "health care" are two different things.

Fine by me. Birth control is not healthcare. Free birth control isn't dragging the system down

That's part of the fix.

No boob jobs,no sex change, no veneers on your teeth, no hair implants, & no Lasik. Those are cash payments!

Cover everyone and include preventative as it will keep costs down.

Stop treating the symptoms with drugs and treat the illness.

And take mental health serious!

The large involvement of government in setting prices for procedures prevents the free market from driving down the costs of procedures.

I was never fond of Rand Paul the POTUS candidate... but in certain areas... like medicine... I like his thoughts and ideas.

http://theresurgent.com/rand-pauls-marke...o-the-aca/

"The major cost-drivers for rapidly rising premiums are the insurance mandates (not the individual and employer mandates). Rand’s plan would eliminate the insurance mandates and result in the opportunity for more customization in insurance plans, thereby increasing efficiency, more closely meeting the needs of relative participants and ultimately driving down costs."

Young healthy people need lower premiums and higher deductibles.

Older less healthy people should probably have lower deductibles with slightly higher premiums due to more usage.

But the answer lies in free markets.

I can buy a car cheaper at place A and than place B.

Under our current system I can't buy said car because place A is in Alabama instead of Florida.

If that doesn't make sense, why would it make sense for health insurance?

Shouldn't I be able to buy and use health insurance anywhere I go in the US?

And if that were so... I'd be able to find the insurance that fits my needs and my budget.

The care you receive isn't or shouldn't be dependant on your insurance plan.

So the price you pay for insurance has no direct effect on the care you receive.

So... insurance companies compete against each other and it at least keeps prices down, if not drives them down.

My healthcare plan includes mental health with a $0 deductible on those services.

What I'm saying it mental health is covered by a lot of insurance plans. (I have blue cross)

Also... drug addiction should be covered under mental health instead of treated as a crime.

But I'm merging threads there....

Well the welfare of the mentally ill and homeless is a separate issue from the health insurance debate...

What shall we do, round them up and put them somewhere?

Give them health insurance for free?

Who pays for that?

Not me I hope.
