Thoughts on Tampa?

#41

Quote:Well than my apologies I was born in Tampa but grew up in st Augustine. I always remember the winters we went to Tampa to visit my grandmother either for Christmas or thanksgiving way hotter then at st Augustine. To me anything south of Orlando doesn't really get that cold
Which, given where I grew up (Jax) and where we're coming from, isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Quote:Tampa is like a bigger version of Jacksonville with more blue hairs and better entertainment, but fewer rednecks and only a slightly higher incidence of drug related violence.

Tampa/St. Pete has few rednecks because they added a category which comprises 20% of their population --- it's called Trailer Trash.

Pinellas County is most densely populated county in Florida and it's full of Trailers.

Quote:Do you consider jorts stylist because the Monster Truck Jam is next week Ninja

I used to live in DC for 15 years so coming to Jacksonville was a real shock back in the late 90s.

The Monster Jam is what it is in every city of the US.  Leave your Banana Republic & J Crew apparel at home. Throw on some jorts, buy some natty lights, and get ready to party !!   I want to 3 monster jams and must admit it was pretty fun ! :pirate:

Ok, here's a new question: let's assume Jacksonville just came into play. I know the city well after growing up there and visiting several times over the last few years (always during the offseason Sad ), but don't know the real estate market at all. Are there any good, safe (emphasis on safe) neighborhoods left where you can score a house for $200,000-ish? I'm completely speculating on the budget based on what our house in Colorado cost.

I have a good friend who is a realtor. I'll ask her if you're really interested.

It'd certainly help to know what I'm getting into before I fly out for any interviews. Thanks.

Right on. I'll shoot her a message tomorrow and see what's available in the price range you mentioned. She mainly does properties on the south end of town. Lots of newer high end developments.

Absolutely.  Depending on what kind of lifestyle you're looking for you can even drop under 200K and still be fine.

I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

You talking about the overrated Hard Rock cafe which has its machines completely rigged?

I think you can make that statement about every slot machine.

Of course, but he does have a point. The Seminoles have their machines set for odds that are a bit longer than Vegas slots. And while we're on the subject, people in this thread have made mention that it's a real casino. That's a bit of a stretch. For instance, Vegas casinos typically comp drinks if you're gambling. Expect no such thing at the Hard Rock. The place is run like they're the only game in town, and that's because they are.

To each his own I guess. I don't consider it a "real casino". More like an experience. As far as longer odds the same can be said for Vegas casinos off of the strip. If you want to play a chance game with the best odds then slots are probably the worst choice of them all. Stick to card games, preferably blackjack.

Oh, I don't disagree with you at all. I was just pointing out that there is a difference.
