The argument you want to make is that their unfunded liabilities are through the roof, or that they are held very tenuously intact by an inordinately small amount of incredibly wealthy taxpayers. A few of them decide to reside or move their business elsewhere and Cali could be in a serious lurch very quickly.

The are the largest state by population. No kidding they get the most. They also generate the most income from tax revenue of any state individual and corporate. They generate more than they receive. Read the whole report next time.

California is heavily in debt...they claim a surplus but so did some outgoing POTUS  when there was a bazillion dollar debt...A 5 second web search shows you that... If states were allowed to file bankruptcy they would have

There is an ebb and flow to these things. When the economy is roaring and growing states tend to do pretty well on taxes. They overextend themselves sometimes though and when things take a downturn they have trouble with the austerity side of things.

I didn't see where Arkansas was trying to become its own country (some would argue it is already). I also disn't see where anyone claimed their finances aren't as bad as they seem or claim they weren't in a financial crisis with a growing deficit, but feel free to redirect from the topic of California's finances.
