Joe Paterno's wins could be restored

Quote:Because it's his legacy? It's important to his family that he be cleared.Isn't his legacy also being aware of the situation and not acting immediately? Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:Haven't I already said that will be part of his legacy as well? He even admitted he should have done more. Curly stated after Joe spoke with Curly this first time about the incident: "After giving it more thought and talking it over with Joe yesterday—I am uncomfortable with what we agreed were the next steps. I am having trouble with going to everyone, but the person involved." Hmmmm, you guys really think Joe was completely in the dark and made a reasonable attempt? What more could he have done you may ask? I don't know, how about not covering up Sandusky.
Quote:Curly stated after Joe spoke with Curly this first time about the incident: "After giving it more thought and talking it over with Joe yesterday—I am uncomfortable with what we agreed were the next steps. I am having trouble with going to everyone, but the person involved." I don't know what you want me to say...I'm pretty sure the quoted response to this said it all. You don't really know what he knew and didn't know. None of us really do....and he said it all before he died, he should have done more. Quote:I don't know what you want me to say...I'm pretty sure the quoted response to this said it all. Then why are you defending him? After talking with Joe, they decided not to report it to police. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Joe helped cover it up. The same Joe that basically ran that town can't all of a sudden play the ignorant old man card (which you tried to do). And what that little quote also shows is Joe is a liar. He stated he reported it and had no more involvement, but we have email evidence completely contradicting that.

I've gone back and forth here enough to show my point of view. I will give you credit, you will continue to push and push more than Trav....you have taken the title as bulldog of the board. There are many more articles out there than what you have given in this thread. You gave an opinion piece from an ESPN writer that wanted clicks on his story. There are other articles that dive a lot deeper than that one did. If you want more information, it's out there. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Here' the 267 page Freeh Report that is on the PSU Website.

Not to come across as all high-minded and such, but every time I think of the Jerry Sandusky situation, I'm reminded of this quote which is historically credited to the Irish political philosopher, Edmund Burke:
<p style="margin-left:40px;">"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing ."
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
Quote:Not to come across as all high-minded and such, but every time I think of the Jerry Sandusky situation, I'm reminded of this quote which is historically credited to the Irish political philosopher, Edmund Burke: Ahh, that is an amazing quote for this instance. Quote:How am I defending him when I said he should have done more? I've gone back and forth here enough to show my point of view. I will give you credit, you will continue to push and push more than Trav....you have taken the title as bulldog of the board."I thought the same way as many of you did until an older guy around Joe Paterno's age put it in perspective. They were born and brought up in a different generation. Things were done differently when they grew up and a lot of things they would see just weren't talked about. He wasn't justifying what he did, but saying that his past could have made him not head straight to the police. He told his superiors about what he was told and thought it was enough. I'm not saying Paterno shouldn't have run straight to the cops and told them, but he at least told his superiors about it who "investigated" it." Maybe we have different definitions of defending. In the above you try to excuse his behavior because of the era he grew up in. You also said he thought it was enough. But as I pointed out he lied. There's no excusing that regardless of age or era he was born. He flat out lied and was part of the reason they didn't turn Sandusky into the police. Should he have done more? Absolutely and to your credit something you have stated repeatedly. But he is actually part of the cover up. He not only didn't do more, he facilitated covering it up. Apparently the only thing that mattered to Paterno was winning games and keeping PSU's name clean. Since several boys' lives were ruined because of his desire to win and not tarnish the PSU name, it's only fitting that his all time winning record be taken from him. They shouldn't be restored just as the lives of those boys can't be restored.

Quote:He did. No he didn't. Are you also one of those people that believe Joe Paterno died of a "broken heart"? Quote:Again, he didn't do enough. He is a bad person for not going to the cops. Going to his superiors to ensure something was done and not reaching out was a terrible decision. So why restore anything of that disgusting waste of a human? Hey, I could easily save this victim, and who knows how much more, by simply calling the cops... Mmmmm nahhhh, I've already told the administration, that's good enough. So now I ask you, If I had walked in on Sandusky and a 13 year old boy in the shower, and chose to do nearly nothing about it, would you want to "restore my legacy"? Didn't think so.
Quote:So why restore anything of that disgusting waste of a human? Joe Paterno didn't walk in on that. He was told second hand by an employee. |
