Bortles is Garbage!

As bad as gabbert was didn't throw more TD than Blake his rookie year?

And didn't emerge in the NFL until SD let him walk. Mistake on their part?

Quote:If we're going to blame the QB for the 4th down play let's be sure to blame Shorts who had the ball go right through his hands for the win on 1st down.

He made mistakes, like overthrowing Lewis on third down, but I'm not going to fault him I that fourth down throw. He's got a rusher in his face, falling away, and throws that ball two feet too wide. That's a really tough throw.

Quote:Bortles will be fine, if we get rid of Fisch.

I agree.  The development of players falls on the coaches.  I just don't see these coaches developing anything except for fear of the pocket complexes...

#45

We need a proven guy that can come in and coach Bortles. Fisch is not that, as u can see from his regression.

Well, considering he had a decent pocket to step up into about 3 plays this game, I'd say he's doing as well as he can.

When you have Toby Gerhart going 1 on 1 against Watt, there's a huge problem.

The offensive line was getting bashed all day. Another thing, our WR's really aren't good at getting off press coverage. Teams bully our offense like they're children. (They kinda are)

we couldve had mack and carr, the raiders have a foundation to build on both side of the ball

Quote:I'll tell you one thing Dave Caldwell said if Blake came out this year he would be better than Jameis and Marcus are you kidding me.

Marcus is way better in his fundamentals, faster, more acurate and doest make stupid mistake 102 TD and 12 picks in his college career. You tell me who's better.

OK, so Mariota had a better college career and he even won the Heisman trophy.

There's plenty of H trophy winners who did poorly in the NFL. That doesn't really tell us anything.

MM will get his chance because he will probably be drafted fairly high and go to a bad team.

It will be then that we can make a better judgement on how he will do in the NFL,and not until then.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Quote:Nice!

But I was referring to another QB...

I understand. I'm just saying you can't fault a QB for the system he played in college. Good players will find a way, bad players won't.

He was pretty good his last couple years in SD. I think he had only one great year, hence they let him walk. It's easy to say it wasn't a mistake because they have Rivers. If they didn't have that type of QB replacement then it would be looked at as a monumental mistake. At the time I thought they should have kept him.

Yes, obviously he's irredeemable. Everyone knows a rookie qb lights it up immediately or is terrible forever.

Carr? Give me Garropolo or trade up for Teddy before touching Carr.

Quote:Oline does suck, but that sack number drops by 20 when Bortles learns how to throw the ball away.

Well Henne was sacked 16 of those times, so you're essentially saying Bortles was responsible for all but 4 sacks.

I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Ya, almost like a coach specifically for the QB. That way Fisch doesn't have to do it.

117 yards. Zero 3rd down conversions. Not good after this many games.

Garbage is a bit harsh. To say his play today was garbage, well you can say the whole team was.

There should be improvement by now. Can't say I saw much.

Outside of Manziel all the other rookie QB's who have played have done much better than him. Carr, Bridewater, and Mettenberger all showed much more than Bortles. He could improve dramatically and turn that around, but it seems much more likely that he won't. What reason do we have to believe he will be that guy? Would everyone have the same evaluation of him if he wasn't in a Jags jersey? unlikely.

His last season with SD was his best one there which was Rivers rookie season iirc. If SD had a little more faith in their QB and drafted Brees a weapon in the 1st round instead of his replacement, maybe SD wins a Super Bowl. Something Rivers hasn't done yet (as great as his is).

Bortles accuracy on short throws concerns me the most.

Nobody knows if he'll be the guy. His jersey doesn't factor into it.

But there is a list of qbs a mile long who were bad their rookie year and turned out okay. More than enough to hold off on declaring him hopeless.
