I do like T Smith, but which LBs are better?  Thomas gets run over by RBs and Hayes is average. 

 

My other concern is that when you say we "held" the Colts (or really any team) I think most teams don't game plan much at all for the Jags and basically coast to victory for the most part if we're being honest.

 

I, too, hope they improve but just trying to be level headed because the secondary is weak (potential is there though with Colvin and McCray) and the LBs altogether are very average at best.  The D Line is greatly improved but when 2/3 of the D is suspect it's a tough sell.

 

Agreed. LB is still a problem in addition to the secondary.  With JT playing inside for the injured George, they'd rather he be back outside where he's more effective.  We could use help inside and outside.

Or just put them through a much needed training camp and add a few more pieces.  The offense will be much improved next year, guaranteed.  Youngest in the NFL.

 

When you hear folks talk about lack of experience, it's not just chatter or another excuse, it's truth.  Most of the offense was playing college ball this time last year.

 

And another terrific point is... most of those guys last regular season game was already played at this point.  Season over until bowl time.

A couple things...

 

I disagree that we are better equipped to cover TEs.  They ate our lunch early in the season.  Anyone who needed a fantasy TE just started whoever played the Jags.  Now, maybe the guys playing now are better at pass coverage so we'll se how they play the rest of the season and into next year.

 

As far as game planning.  I don't think it's an ignorant comment.  Yes, I'm sure some planning happens but teams don't game plan for us to the same level they would the Pats or Broncs.

 

Ertz and Paul tore use apart in our first two games. Since then, only Walker (57), Sims (51), and Donnell (55) have had games over 50 yards. 

 

Fleener (x2), Gates, Miller, and Witten were unable to break 50 yards. 

 

I would say that we have improved, and those 2 bad games appear more like outliers than a problem.

You're right. But I don't think momentum carries over if you're a good team either. Consider the Carolina Panthers.

 

To have a good year you have to have talent, obviously, (especially a good QB), a favorable schedule, and be lucky regarding injuries.

 

But does it help to have won rather than lose - of course it does.

It's not the same team as last year... Bortles, ARob, Lee, Hurns, Lindner, Bowanko, McCray, Smith, Colvin, Clemons, Bryant. All are new Jags this year and are starters or major contributors, and mostly rookies.


It's not enough yet to say we're ready or that we've finally turned the corner, but the progress is real and we do have talent. Two drafts in with a third on the way and a second off season coming up for some of the rookies, I think we may start to see something more and it has nothing to do with how last year ended; the only real similarity there is that the Jags do not quit--they play hard.

Your explanation is appreciated - but the bolded areas seem in contradiction to one another. So - if I mistook your meaning, that is why. 

 

We see it a little differently, but not worlds apart.  I think that coaches are capable of shooting from the hip as well as speaking plainly at times. I actually think it's becoming a little bit more common among a few of the younger coaches.  Still - much of what crosses their lips when a microphone is present is at the very least glossed over and sometimes pure "coach-speak."  I just find it odd that a grown man would say "this isn't coach speak" and then lie through his teeth.  Why bother with the disclaimer in the first place? 

 

I can see where you might think the first quote means "overlooking" where I meant it as "he appraises the Jaguars as a team that just needs a game plan emphasizing possession and ball control."

 

I'd say the disclaimer is the giveaway for the lying. It's sort of like when a racist says "A lot of my best friends are (racial group)."

Yeah, I was beginning to question whether there were any signs of improvement this year. The team didn't play a home game for almost the entire month of November, and for me it's difficult to measure the intensity of desire on television. On Sunday against the Giants, however. I was in the stadium..........binoculars in my hands.............and I promise you that this team is different than the 2013 team. Even when they were down 21-0, they didn't lose their focus or their intensity, unlike last year's team.

We have 4 games remaining. I think we win 2 of them, and finish 4-12, same as last year. But statistics can be misleading. If they do win 2 out of 4, that would mean they've won 3 of the last 5........and would bode well for the offseason as well as next year.
