How good IS Bortles?

#41

Quote:Because they knew the rest of the team was capable. They needed a couple guys, like you usually do when you're 7-9 and on the verge of being a deep playoff team.

They had a better cast no doubt. But a Super Bowl team they were not...at least not in Russ' first year.

The numbers Bortles is putting up and plays he's making and being a rookie while having a dreadful line, no veteran receivers, a lame duck playbook, and literally zero running game is nothing short of amazing.

67.8% Completion percentage even with drops and rookies everywhere.  That is really good for a rookie.  I wasn't thrilled with the pick but I sure am now.

Quote:all they needed was a QB. We need a running back, new linebackers, a new free safety, and o-lineman.

Don't forget better coaching.

We need better coaching.

Too many people discount good coaching, but not me.

It definitely makes a difference.

Gus proves that to me every week.

Quote:And here I thought he inherited a team that won 7 games and was so desperate for a QB it signed Matt Flynn to a huge FA contract.
Go to NFL.com and compare the first 3 games BB5 played versus the 1st 3 games of Wilson's rookie year.

BB5 has had to do more with less and BB5's yards per game, YPA, and number of attempts is better than Wilsons. The only thing Wison has better than BB5 are in INTs, and considering what is being asked of BB5, I don't consider this a big deal.

Wilson was asked to be nothing more than a game manager. BB5 is being asked to do a lot more and has been pretty darn successful considering what he has to work with.

It's not homerism, it's just a fact.

He's so good he is asked to do it all.

He is only 17 yards away from being the leading rusher on the team and he is tied for the longest run of the season at 20 yards.

And he's only 1 rushing TD behind the leader.

And this is all without playing for the 1st 2 1/2 games this season.

BB is ALL the Jags have right now.

Blake and the Bortlettes, that's what we have right now.

Get this man some help. Stat.

Blake Bortles has it.. because he was thrown to the wolves and has risen to the challenge. (Unlike that Blaine guy)

I blame this inept coaching staff on not surrounding him with a veteran WR.

I blame this inept coaching staff on actually believing Bortles could sit behind Henne for a year after preseason play.

I blame this inept coaching on our lack of running game and dialed down playbook.. Why are we passing 10 yards in and every play.. The Mad Dog spoke on this.. teams don't have to be honest against us. I thought these slant route end arounds, 2 yard completions were done with. We have a QB who can sling it.. maybe it's on receivers if they can't separate downfield but that's on the coaching staff and GM.

At least our "we will run, run, throw, punt days seem to be over. It's been 7 years of the same [BLEEP]. Disrespected offense and lapse of judgement defense.. when will it change!

I'm a huge Bortles fan, and he's been impressive so far for a rookie, no doubt....but people gotta stop acting like he's the only QB in the NFL that suffers from dropped passes.

I don't think people are acting like he is. But that Todman drop yesterday was inexcusable. That was a great play and Todman blew it.

It's hard to blame the inept coaching staff on a veteran receiver when their plan was to sit him for a year. In addition to that, Shorts is a vet.

TMD...  you have seen enough awful Quarterback play with this team to know when you see a good one right?  We have a race car driver sitting behind the wheel of a dump truck.

I agree that the Todman drop in particular was bad. But look no further than Stevie Johnson when he was in Buffalo, for some examples of horrendous drops. I can't imagine how some of you might have reacted to SJ's  dropped pass that would have won the game a few years ago.

I was one that thought Cobb should have made this team over Todman anyway.

Where am I suggesting that Bortles isn't a good one or even REALLY good one??

Cecil is supposed to be our veteran wideout. I think it's possible we sign either Demaryius or Julius Thomas. Denver won't be able to extend both.

Does anyone have a video of when BB slipped through those 2 defenders for the throw to Todman that he dropped? That was Big Ben-esque in his prime right there.

Julius Thomas on this team as an upgrade to Marcedes would be sweet!

I can't see Denver letting Demaryius go. Unfortunately, they'll probably keep both, even if one is franchised.

Based on what?

Don't even answer because I know the answer. A 4 minute YouTube highlight reel.

Jordan Cameron is also going to be a free agent IIRC.

Looks Like There's not a lot of great young free agents out there this year, which is unfortunate.

I say sign another 2 offensive lineman with starting experience, and draft another..

I thought they threw downfield plenty yesterday.

They run a lot of short passes because the run game sucks so bad.

They need to get a veteran right tackle and free safety.
