Dave Caldwell Is No Longer Your GM

To even give Dave an extension shows are ok with being a bottom tier team in the NFL. Stupid
If anything, hiring Coughlin as vp of football operations is more of a sign that Khan didn't trust himself, not Dave.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
He's still the GM. He just got a little.. neutered.
Only a chump boos the home team!
What I see is that Khan loves Caldwell, but learned that he is simply too inexperienced at this point to do everything right. Enter Coughlin on a 3 year contract. Coughlin has the final say as a safety net, but my guess is that he(TC) is here to finish grooming Caldwell as a GM. If it works, TC likely retires after 3 and Caldwell is promoted to VPOFO. If Caldwell doesn't progress to the point of Khan's liking, then it's a fresh slate. That may or may not be a 3 year process to determine it either.
I think Coughlin is here to get the most out of a couple of guys that have some experience, but not the world of experience. If he works in that capacity, this thing can skyrocket.

Quote:If anything, hiring Coughlin as vp of football operations is more of a sign that Khan didn't trust himself, not Dave.He was hired as VP of Football Operations, not marketing and off the field stuff. That doesnt make any sense, not trusting himself. Coughlin is essentially the board. Caldwell wants something done, it has to get approved. Its already being reported that VP is the final say. Head coach and GM go directly to him.
Quote:RIP salary cap! I'd rather go to the playoffs, and have a chance at the Super Bowl, rather than have a healthy cap. Oliver Vernon proved why the cap isn't the number 1 priority. It is important but, if Coughlin spends freely then it's ok with me.

It's all speculation and rumor until the presser (likely tomorrow.)
Rapoport: "Coughlin interviewed as a head coach. That is what he wanted to do," Rapoport explained. "He was very clear. He did not want to come in as an executive, he wanted to be the man on the sidelines. And then they decided to hire Doug Marrone and ... Coughlin reversed course a little bit and decided to come on as an executive."
As for the power structure, which has yet to be officially announced, Rapoport said it "sounds like" Caldwell will still pick the players, "just given Coughlin's title and given ... Caldwell's role in the situation."
Asked if Coughlin was ever seriously considered for the role of head coach, Rapoport said: "My impression was -- they did not. I never got the sense from the people I was speaking with that he was really a legitimate head-coaching candidate. What I did get the sense of was that they had a lot of respect for him. They wanted to meet with him." Quote:He was hired as VP of Football Operations, not marketing and off the field stuff. That doesnt make any sense, not trusting himself. Quote:https://twitter.com/ryanohalloran/status...3490375680Thats not what he said...he said," "Would think he has the final say on everything." That means he "thinks" thats what it is but there has been no official confirmation...Stop passing off unconfirmed info as fact "He thinks" is not the same as "it has been confirmed by joe from the jaguars" We show less advertisements to registered users. Rapoport:
"sounds like" Caldwell will still pick the players, "just given Coughlin's title and given ... Caldwell's role in the situation." Wait so Caldwell still has final say? So Coughlin was just brought in to appears the fans? This is a real cluster at this point.
Quote:Rapoport:Thats not what other reports are saying. The local media is saying its Coughlin with final say.
Quote:Rapoport: It's only a cluster because the anti-Caldwell people want to make this seem like Caldwell basically lost his job. And they're doing it with nothing but hearsay and weasel words to back them up. Same as it ever was. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Quote:Thats not what other reports are saying. The local media is saying its Coughlin with final say. So Ryan O'HatesCaldwell said it using the weasel words listed about and it's gospel? “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
Quote:So Ryan O'HatesCaldwell said it using the weasel words listed about and it's gospel?that is an incredibly ignorant thing to say. Im not trying to bash Caldwell, I'm saying most of the people are saying now. Tom Coughlin is essentially head of the personnel department. Dont think he was hired just to twiddle his thumbs. |
