September 11th. They tried, but life goes on.

Quote:Well considering terrorists will use anything to plan a attack, including shoe bombs, if we stop searching "grandma and her colostomy bag" then terrorists will explore that idea.

Tell Homeland Security about that complaint and see the response they give you.
How many attacks have they stopped by strip searching octogenarians?

The TSA staff is nothing more than a bunch of glorified mall cops.

Homeland Security is a big part of the problem here.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I completely agree.

However, why do you keep touting the half of the political spectrum that decided this level of authoritarianism is warranted?

Don't confuse Republicans with conservatives. Bush wasn't a conservative he was a Neo-Con they're just as guilty of big government as your democrats and socialist.

Your problem is you believe there is such a thing as a politician that doesn't want government.

You swallow the lies hook line and sinker, are shocked when you find out they lied, then vote for the lies once again.

Time to give up the bizarre "get rid of the government" ideology, accept that there WILL be government, and start voting for good government instead of the lie of no government.

I'm not voting for no government, I'm not an anarchist. I vote for SMALLER government, stop accepting the lie there IS a good government.

Let me break this down into logical blocks for you to see if you can understand your fallacy.

"I'm not voting for no government" - So you are voting for government

"I'm not an anarchist" - Okay, still consistent

"I vote for smaller government." - A quixotic effort bound to fail, but still at least consistent with your assertion that you are voting for government.

"the lie that there is good government." - So if there is no such thing as good government is bad then why aren't you an anarchist?

I'm not an anarchist because it's not a realistic goal.

So ideally you think it would be best to simply have no government?

So according to you government can never get smaller, only larger. In homieworld there is only room for more authoritarianism while he rails against government authoritarianism that he doesnt like. It must be nice to accept such dissonance as "logical." Or crazy, whatevs.

Quote:I never "lectured" anyone about getting political its not my problem you or anyone else got hot and bothered by that comment. Correct me if im wrong, but I thought this post was dedicated to people sharing their memories about 9/11 regardless of political affiliation right?

It is. Which is why you made a fool out of yourself for getting political with your very next post and saying:

"So if someone broke into your house and shot you, but still survived, did the suspects win?

The point is We have had to change our security measures to prevent another attack from happening. Would you want to go back to the lax awareness that we had before 9/11?"

That does not have to do with honoring those who lost their lives or memories from that day. That post was about your political stance on governing.

Go back and read my first post in this thread, and read the posts before that.

Dont flatter yourself by thinking you are establishing credibility be calling me a "fool".

Yes, the TSA and HS can be pain in the rear, but looking at it from their perspective, they are trained to look out for unusual behaviors and weed them out quickly before safety is compromised.

The TSA, NSA, HS, it's all an extension of a police state. How can you be against a militarized police force but ok with organizations like the TSA, HS, the NSA it's the militarized police force on steroids.

So glad to see that a memorial post was hijacked and turned into a venomous argument that completely took away from what it was supposed to be. Have you guys no shame? If you want to argue go ahead, but have some respect and start another topic.

Quote:For all intents and purposes, they've already won.  Our lives forever changed on 9/11/01.
Because there is change, by no means does it mean they've won. Far from it.

The losing would be not learning from it. Thinking we are isolated. Thinking bad stuff happens in other places.

Its not the world we live in, even before the attacks. We stopped being naive.

Maybe, just maybe we won, by becoming more self aware, and not letting the 3,000+ die in vein.

No. For those who lost their lives, we must never concede and say they won. Ever.

I don't think the thread would have turned this way if it weren't in the political forum. I assume Deacon originally had it in sideline (which I don't think is an inappropriate place for this at all) judging by his second comment, but in the context of the political forum political discussions are going to happen. The pissing contest is wholly unnecessary but there's nothing inherently wrong with discussing the politics of a subject like this. In fact, discussions surrounding events like this are sometimes the most enlightening and important, even if it hurts.

Purely memorial threads have their place, and political discussion around the event has its place. Let's not chastise either one of them.

I get what you're saying, but I still think a political discussion about it could have been in a different post.

It's in the political section though. Do you want two threads on the same topic in the same place? If this had been left in the Sideline (where I presume it was started - I wasn't online until after it had been moved) and the political discussion still happened, I'd be 100% with you. This isn't the sideline though. This is the part of the board where the politics of situations are discussed.
