Quote:Here's a question that comes to mind.   If there was an organization that only advocated for White people, that had a certain political affiliation,  that had a similar approach to what you believe the NAACP's approach is,   how do you think this organization for White people would be viewed?

Just to set the record straight,  I would be totally against any group that just advocates for a certain group just based on skin color/ race.
There was actually a woman who started the NAAWP a while back.  As you can imagine, she took quite a beating in the media.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I just checked and the website still exists.  It was started as a gag, but got national press a few years back.  Once the media got hold of it, they destroyed this woman.  She was an idiot to begin with, but this did nothing to help her despite the fact that her intentions were really not bad.  She was preaching equality for ALL races, but when you throw a W into that equation, suddenly people lose their sense of humor and see skinheads and rebel flags.

Would you recognize the value of the NAACP during the era of Jim Crow and segration?

Do you support the Jewish Defense League?

Quote:I don't like it and I certainly wouldn't participate in any group advocating advancement of just one race/color but I understand why they exist and don't view them all as negatives. For example there's often Hispanic clubs here in Florida, I know plenty of people that are Hispanic and go these events where they talk about strictly the Spanish community and how to advance their community.

While I see your point,   I'm not comfortable with any group that basically just supports the cases of a specific race.  Using the example you mentioned,  the clubs should be advocating the same rights for people of all races,  not just Hispanics.    The only reason why I even think that race should be classified on the census is for medical purposes.   People of some races are more prone to certain diseases than people of other races.    Having studies on this could potentially save lives.   Otherwise,   I don't think race by itself should be an issue.

This is basically what I was trying to illustrate.   Thanks for providing an example.

I think the woman who actually started it lives here in Jacksonville.  Duval pride!

Regarding your first question,  I stand by what I expressed to Eric in my recent reply.    The focus should always be making sure that people of all races have the same rights.

Judaism isn't a race,   despite what Nazi groups as the KKK express.

The JDL of today in America is a bad joke that causes more harm than good.    It's anything but a right wing organization.   An example of this is they supported the Israeli retreat from Gaza in 2005.   The Israeli citizens are paying a heavy price today because of this.   Any organization that advocates giving up even one inch of Israeli land is dangerous and evil..    Once the campaign ended to few Soviet Jews,   the JDL in America went straight downhill.

I greatly admire the efforts of the old JDL that was started by Rabbi Meir Kahane.   One thing you might not be aware of is that the old JDL didn't just support Jewish causes.   They supported what was just causes and had many non Jews as members.     To their credit,  they stood up to the old Black Panthers in 1969 when practically no other group would.

Id prefer race or color never factored in either but it does so I understand racial organizations are going to exist. I'm just pointing out there's wats to do it right and wrong.

Tragically,   White racism,  Black racism,  Asian Racism,  etc.  exists.    Every race needs leaders that will speak out against racism and work for laws,  rights,  and projections that all races will receive.    Basically,  what we need is the antithesis of Al Sharpton,  Jesse Jackson,  David Duke,  and other racists.

Unfortunately, the race business is big money, and a lot of political power, so the odds of it happening are slim to none.  I agree with you, but I just don't see it happening because too many people benefit from the current structure.

Even if that's the case, which I'm not sure it is, both organizations are irrelevant so I'm not sure what the point of the thread is.

Sadly,  I agree with you.    Having said that,  I think it's vital that people speak out against the evils and exploitations of racism.    To your credit,  you have been doing that in the Ferguson, MO. thread.

Judiasm is not a race, Jews are a race of people. Definitions of "race" are not limited to groupings of people by skin color.

This thread is an off shoot of a discussion in another thread where Okalhomie made the statement Black Panthers at a voting precinct in Philly wasn't intimidation it was the same as pollsters at any other location. When called out, he refused to discuss it and said start a new thread.

Well, good for the black panthers. Whether they are to poll or not, I hope they did scare some old white folks off. It'd only be fair. Republicans pollsters use scare tactics and flyers with the wrong date on them, etc in low income districts.

Cut off your nose to spite your face.  Sounds like a great idea.  Two wrongs make a right, I suppose.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Why shouldn't white people and people of all races have more say?

My point is the goal should be that race doesn't matter.   People should be viewed by their actions,  not their race.

I don't think you want to set a precedent of the biggest gang controlling voting precincts. That would turn out bad for everyone. Take your emotions and what appears to be a racist mentality and put it aside for a minute and think about that.

Would you classify for example Buddhism and Hinduism the same way?
