I wouldn't mind that but he wouldn't garner any more than what we got for Mike Thomas., probably less.

 

I feel like if it's not higher than his draft spot, it probably isn't worth it.

More than likely.  It is that time of year where they're looking for anything to write about.  He'll probably make that comment about at least 50 more players over the next couple of months. 

 

i still think Cecil could be traded but I don't think it will happen in the next two years unless Lee and Robinson just blow it out of the water. I could also see the Jags moving to a passing attack similar to the Packers were almost every receiver plays a big role.

 

I don't see them trading Cecil unless what you say happens, and that's so far down the road it's not worth talking about now. 

 

I do think you're going to see the offense transition to a more aggressive passing game over the next couple of years, especially if they eventually get Blackmon back. 

This flies in the face of what Sullivan has said about Sanders. Sullivan was on 1010 a month or so ago, and his remarks were the polar opposite of this speculation. Being that it was a month ago, I don't remember the comments verbatim, but he was impressed with Sanders, given that he wasn't supposed to be thrust into the role he was in last season. Sullivan said he performed above expectations of the staff because he had not been coached to be playing where he was. The intention and focus of Sanders' training and coaching was for another role altogether.

 

Sullivan feels once he returns to where the staff envisions him, his productivity will be far greater.

 

This is per the position coach, not some journalist.

 

Yeah, he's been speaking pretty highly of Sanders.  Even Gus has had some good things to say about him. 

 

But, if the other receivers start to show they are legitimate, he's definitely going to have a fight on his hands for a roster spot.  The thing that augments his value is his return ability.

I saw someone put that Tandon Doss was 1st in punt return average.  Did I read that right?  Also, do you take a better punt returner or a better 3rd receiver?  I would take the WR.  Any chance Doss has potential to blossom here?  I don't know much about him.

Doss is a turd.  That is the guy on the bubble.  We dont really have enough good receivers to be giving receiver roster spots to return specialists.  Ace is a legitimate receiver first, return guy second.

5.  There is nobody else on this roster worth cutting Ace for

1.  In a 4 receiver set you can have more than one slot guy

 

2.  Im sure what he is referring to are packages designed to move Cecil around.  That doesn't mean Ace won't be a full-time slot guy.

 

3.  Ace has played more than one position at receiver for us.

Robinson is a third-down back. Sanders is a slot receiver. I don't see them in competition for the same spot at all, especially given the much-heralded decision to get Robinson up to 212 lbs. for a bigger role in the backfield.

 

Cutting Sanders would be essentially handing his spot to an undrafted rookie. Anyone here was to convince me that any of the undrafted/street players we added at WR are better than Ace? As others have said, this is just O'Halloran trying to create some noise when the only sound to be heard is crickets.

For him to not be on the roster as a guy you just spent a fourth round pick on after he just showed promise as a rookie? Either something is rotten in Denmark or more likely O'Halloran is just over analyzing the roster spots available. Mike Brown would seem more likely to be odd man out. Fisch has not wowed me thus far. He has shown an ability to use Ace's quickness to attack defenses. I thought he was used in creative ways and would like to see him thrown into the game plan in new ways. I would be surprised if Fisch would not be fighting to keep him based on his unique measurables alone. This story didn't make sense to me unless it was planted to motivate Sanders... Which makes no sense because he heard the words ''compete" and "get better" for a year.

I usually like what Ryan has to say, but totally disagree with this. Sanders was one of the better draft picks considering where they got him. He exceeded expectations as a receiver and I expect him to break out this year as a punt returner. He's not going anywhere.

Fisch likes his gadgets.  Ace is a nifty gadget-guy.  I think he's safe unless a dark horse really lights it up in pre-season. Still - I can't imagine him being the odd man out. 

 

Shorts, Lee, Robinson, Sanders are probably safest with Brown and Doss leading the race for the bubble.
