The Jags Say They'll Sit Bortles For A Year......

#41

Good move. Too many holes on this roster. Better to "suffer" another year with Henne than rush Bortles into a terrible situation and permanently stunt his growth.

Quote:If he proves he's able to pick up the offense and ascend to the starting role this year, they're not going to keep him off the field.

Agreed I'm not saying rush the kid out there in just saying if we evaluated him this high he should be able to get on the field this year if not day one

Might as well let him sit and learn. He's not going to have the protection/weapons you want for a raw, young QB to lean on. Take WR/OL in the next few rounds then do it again next year and you'll be good to go in 2015.

enlighten me o know it all
No, the presentation of their pick. Or, you can call it their first round selection press conference. I suggest you check  Jaguars.com later for a replay of those comments. They were said.

So, do you have any other questions about who called me today? I can do the rundown if you're really desperate.

How does he not beat out Henne by week 1? Gus preaches competition. Gabbert beat out Henne. Bortles is raw but appears to be more of a competitor than Gabbert and his athleticism looks more fluid. Still shocked, though.

Quote:Congrats, Jags. 3rd and 4th round picks are who you sit for a year. NOT the third stinking pick in the first round.

Thanks for nothing. See you next May.....

I forgot about Palmer, I think Rivers was because they weren't ready to give up on Brees.

Quote:This is why so many QB's are busts, they are forced into a bad situation too early. Let the kid sit. We weren't going to make the playoffs this year anyways. So what if we end up with another pick in the top half of the draft?

Life will go on

So In year 3 we expect the kid to come in Raw as a starter and carry a playoff team?

No, I actually think he'll be playing by week 12. But he doesn't need to be the day 1 guy and the coach doesn't need to play him to save his job.

Fair enough we can all agree at some point this year he should beat out Henne unless Henne finds some magic fairy dust and becomes a decent game manager

If he beats out Henne he plays. Everything said now is politics. However if he doesnt win the competition you should be concerned.

Coaches that say they are sitting their top 5 QB for a year to learn, holds as much as weight as when they say, " we are going to play the best guy at that position."

So if The guy you said you are sitting for a year is better than your veteran, are you still going to sit him for a year?

Blake Bortles starting QB for the Jacksonville Jaguars by mideseason.
