The Case for Johnny Manziel

Quote:Johnny would be the ultimate YOLO pick. Huge risk, huge reward. It would be entertaining to watch it unravel. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:Huge risk, huge reward. It would be entertaining to watch it unravel.Same risk as with other first round picks. QB busts happen and teams recover. It's not like the team is a QB away from making the playoffs. I hope they take him and build around him. 2 years from now the team will be complete and Manziel will be comfortable. If he is not the answer then at the very least the other pieces are in place. Quote:Same risk as with other first round picks. QB busts happen and teams recover. If he is not the answer then at the very least the other pieces are in place. This team hasn't recovered from drafting Byron Leftwich. It's not about being a QB away from making the playoffs. It's about not setting this team back another couple of years if possible. Manziel could wind up being very good at the next level, or he could wind up being a bust. Time will tell. I don't have a problem with them drafting him. I just think folks need to temper their enthusiasm if he is the pick because there are a lot of flags there. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:This team hasn't recovered from drafting Byron Leftwich. You mean the team hasn't recovered from Leftwich, Williams, M. Jones, Nelson, and the infamous Harvey/Groves tandem. The team would not have been set back for so long if it wasn't for the years of bad drafts. Leftwich wasn't the answer as early as 2007, but the front office found several duds. The drafts from 2004-2008 set the team back more so than any QB. Now the team has several holes to fill because of Shack and Gene. We show less advertisements to registered users. I have heard so many people claim Mack or Clowney could go #1 and #2 that if either was there at #3 with a pass rush being a huge glaring need it would be shocking to me if they were selected (unless Dave knows something we dont) other wise maybe Sammy but i would expect a trade down as the most likely scenario....
I wouldnt be real upset to see Johnny drafted as he is the best QB in this draft (the most intelligent at least), and the most exciting to watch. The oline could be tailored to his movement since the team needs a tackle, center, and a guard. Quote:no worse than u pimpin a 2nd round qb all uear and saying he is the best qb prospects since Luck and one of the best in the last 10 yrs. Haha Quote:Well, that and the fact that you're Teddy Bridgewater's second biggest fan on this board. And I've been on these boards since Teddy was in high school, and I'll be here after he retires. Slightly huge difference than the multitude of JFF fanboys that create an account purely to come on here and pimp Manziel and nothing else eh? We got it wrong with the most important position on the field, and we've suffered as a consequence ever since. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Not the article. The video. Watch around 3:09. Doesn't that team sound like us? This is why I feel our team is his best fit. I don't know how much to give Charlie on this, but the stuff he describes is us. GO JAGS!!
Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!

Makes sense. Quote:So youve been following him since high school, but have no bias in your "scouting breakdown"? Makes sense. That's not at all what I said. Reread perhaps.
Just for the record I do not go to other team boards to pimp JM. I only came to this one because he would be the perfect fit and the tarps would come off the empty seats. The Jags need someone like this to keep the franchise in Jacksonville. So if you get him you better go see him because I will say it one more time. He attracted so much money to A&M that they are building this $400M+ makeover of Kyle Field. Did it bother them that he didn't win them all? No. It was just awesome to watch him play because you never knew what he was going to do next to top the last unbelievable play.
At A&M, when he first got there, the majority of fans had what was called BAS-Battered Aggie Syndrome. It looked a lot like the "we're screwed no matter what we do" things I have read here. Two years of this magic player have cured 99% of those afflicted. Take the cure. Watching him escape to burn your enemies is a lot of fun. We show less advertisements to registered users. Do you have any idea how many people have told us Player X would remove the tarps? Guess what? The tarps are there because the stadium is too big for the market. No player is going to make the market larger, including Manziel. We heard the same nonsense spouted when Tebow was the target. The only thing that's going to make the tarps go away is downsizing the stadium capacity even further. Our stadium capacity, even with the tarps installed, is higher than big market teams like Chicago. Did you know that? The Jags aren't going anywhere, and they've somehow managed to accomplish that without having some magical player who is the fan proclaimed savior. Despite some awful seasons, there haven't been any blackouts, and millions are being invested in upgrading the facility. Doesn't sound like a team that's on the verge of moving, does it? So, how's Manziel going to save what doesn't need saving? Anytime someone comes in with the tarps or keeping the Jags in Jax angle as part of their defense, it's clear they have no idea what they're talking about. Sorry. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:Do you have any idea how many people have told us Player X would remove the tarps? Guess what? The tarps are there because the stadium is too big for the market. Thats it in a nutshell. A 61-63,000 capacity would be more suited to the market, I'd guess.
We heard it a million times.
If you draft Tebow, you can remove the tarps. If you hire Spurrier, you can remove the tarps. It doesn't matter what name you plug in for player or coach, it doesn't make the city any bigger, and it doesn't shrink the stadium. This notion that people would fly in weekly from Texas to watch him? Completely ludicrous. There might be one or two, but their last names are more than likely Manziel, or they're related in some manner. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

JM isn't going to help the Jags stay in Jville, because they aren't going anywhere. I know this is news to anyone who doesn't follow the team or anyone who doesn't do their homework (majority of news analysts). I'm not poking at OP, but your arguments to why we should take him don't equate to taking him. My arguments to taking him equate to on the field play (which you eluded to as well) and how our team is very well made for him. He isn't going to start here. Our offense would be great for him. Our owner and GM are patient to allow him a year or so to learn more of what he needs. Combine that with his talents, and ding ding ding! Winner winner chicken dinner. That's just my opinion on the matter. But he won't remove tarps as FBT has discussed. He will bring more national coverage of the team and if he does well, could allow us to get more national games (MNF, TNF, etc). But winning also does this, so that really doesn't matter. Winning will solve everything. And I believe he can help with that! GO JAGS!!

Quote:We heard it a million times. I agree with what you are saying. But also will interject that a selection of Johnny Manziel, epecially if he lives up to expectations, certainly would help us from a national perspective, pertaining to exposure and popularity. Possibly even in more prime time type games. Quote:I agree with what you are saying. But also will interject that a selection of Johnny Manziel, epecially if he lives up to expectations, certainly would help us from a national perspective, pertaining to exposure and popularity. Possibly even in more prime time type games. If he lives up to expectations, he increases visibility for the team. That doesn't equate to anything when it comes to tarps or relocation. Those two issues have been settled, and it didn't require some mythological hero to save the day. If he lives up to expectations is a BIG if right now. I'm not convinced he'll be able to sustain. He could flash as a rookie, only to be reigned in once the league has enough film to figure out how to shut him down. The Garrard Syndrome. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
They said the same thing about Baylor's tarped seats in Waco, Texas, armpit of the world. Guess what. A dynamic coach and RGIII changed all that and now the new stadium opens just across the river from campus this coming season. The right player with the right team and the right coaching staff can change everything. You guys have battered Jags syndrome. LOL!
