Manziel is all about the show, and that's what today was. He put on a show, but it didn't really show me anything new, no pun intended. He's going into the NFL to entertain. Not so sure that's the right place for a Quarterback's head to be.

I know we will disagree on this, but I think you're misinterpreting "showy" for Manziel having what some call the "it factor".

 

I'm not sure if you were able to catch the live Jaguars broadcast before Manziel came out earlier today. But the guys were talking, and they were saying how Manziel was the only "rockstar" in this draft. And they were saying that in a good way. That there was just something about him that commands a crowd. They said they had both been to Bottles and Bridgewater's pro-days, but that it was diferent. When Manziel walks out he literally demands the attention of everyone in the room, even of all these major NFL head coaches. Not though because Johnny's waving his arms and saying hey look at me, but just because he's got "it". And that's hard to explain, but I think that can sometimes be misconstrued as 'showy'.

Nope.  Running through drills going against a broomstick doesn't sway me just like going through it with underwear and no rush would sway me with somebody else.

 

I watched all of his videos.  That's what I want to see.

 

Gabbert was probably one of the best practicing QB's we've had.  But it didn't translate to the field.  I don't care what these guys do in underwear.  I look at the video of their games.

He was the best QB alive going into his Pro Day and he did everything to confirm it.  JFF is light years ahead of everyone else.

There's no middle ground for Manziel, he'll either boom or bust.

I'd rather bust hard with the potential of hitting a home run VS taking a middling talent at QB and dwelling in QB purgatory for 4 or 5 years.



If there is one position to take the home run over a base hit its at QB.


But that will be Dave's call.

A players "pro-day" (or combine results for that matter) should never significantly sway your opinion unless you are simply flawed in your evaluation ability. That goes for any player. 

 

You'd have to be pretty much football [BLEEP] for it to impact your opinion either way.

This coming from someone who downgrades Carr, because he shares his brothers last name? Where does that rank as far as ability to evaluate? Wouldnt that be  "football [BLEEP]" to let that impact your opinion?

I can say I wouldn't be pretty excited if we drafted him #3 overall. Now, if we were able to get him with our 2nd round pick, then I'd be excited to see him in a Jaguar uniform.

No, his pro day did not sway my draft choice preferences.  Two things did stand out to me.... 1. he's got a better arm than I thought he had, and 2. you can wear camouflage football pants to an NFL interview.

What was great about his Pro Day includes the following:

 

1. He did not foul up. He delivered the merchandise.

 

2. He threw like he was relishing the chance to showcase his ability. 

 

3. He was not tight.

 

4. He was NOT pretentious. 

 

5. His Pro Day was enormously helpful to pro scouts.

 

What was really good about his Pro Day includes the following:

 

1. We finally saw some of the real guy in the post-Pro Day interview with the NFL Network experts.

 

2. We learned what kind of man he is in the face of instantaneous criticism.

 

3 He separated himself as the best of the so called big three.

 

Manziel was what you expect of a guy reported to have spent time preparing for his Pro Day. That took lots of work in advance.

 

The critics here are wrong. The Pro Day means very much.
