Gerhart agrees to terms w/ Jaguars

Quote:TMD,  what makes you think that the Eagles would trade Bryce Brown for modest trade compensation?   Considering Brown is a low priced player,  who provides depth at the RB position,  I can't picture the Eagles trading him for less than a 4th Round pick.

I'd easily give them one of our 4ths for Brown.

They drafted Polk last year and Brown is a Reid guy, not a Kelly guy, so Brown is a luxury at this point. Given that they drafted Brown for a 7th rounder, a 4th or even our 5th would be a nice profit to them.

Great signing

Low mileage back who runs with power

And he was able sit behind AP too

This reeks of power football and playaction bootlegs

Lol, it doesn't matter who we sign, it would be a good move.

Since when is 26 years old middle aged? He's barely played with AP at the helm, and has many years on the tank, I'd say considering the deal he was given, this is a fairly decent signing for Jacksonville. I still would like to see MJD brought back, hopefully some scum team like the Jets don't grab him.

Quote:Why not instead trade one of our 400 late round picks for Bryce Brown, who is younger, faster and better?

Why do you think its that easy?

Quote:What makes him think that? Madden? He's known for whining about impossible trade scenarios.. Its what he does.

I remember saying that the Jags should trade their 2nd rounder for Mallett, and you and others claimed Mallett wasn't even worth a 4th.....now today it comes out that Mallett is close to being dealt for a ..........wait for it..........a 2nd round pick.

Yes, I clearly have no idea what players are worth, do i?

I'm glad we wont be forced to blow a draft pick in such a deep draft on a RB, rather spend them on more important positions.

I like him as a power back in a power running scheme.

We are a zone blocking scheme.  I would think we need a quicker back.

But welcome, Gerhart.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

As someone who sees at least 8 Vikings games a season,  the two underrated aspects of Toby Gerhart's game are his receiving skills and blitz protection skills.   Gerhart often replaced Adrian Peterson on 3rd Down expecting passing situations,  especially before Peterson improved as a blitz protector.   Gerhart isn't flashy but he's consistent.   You know what you are getting with him.   Good addition for the Jaguars.

Quote:He better be balls-cheap. Middle-aged, slow, unspectacular running backs aren't worth the cost of the paper their check's written on.

(Welcome to Jacksonville, dude.)

4.53 isn't slow.

They have a glut of RB and Brown isn't Kelly's guy, he's Reids. Brown was drafted with a 7th, so him traded for anything over that will be a profit.

The folks on this board don't understand this very well.  Almost ANY player is better than MOST of the players the Jaguars have had the last two years...

He did have a 7.9 average last season on 36 carries.

This signing makes little sense.

We just may get MJD back, so far I have not heard anything about teams interested in him. I did not think there would be a rush to sigh him but I also thought by now there would be some news. I think Caldwell let him go to free agency to establish just what his value is and then he will decide if resigning him is worth the money. I think everyone knows MJD thinks he should be paid more money then he may be worth. I think it is a smart move by Caldwell so if the Jaguars do match a offer then MJD can get back to playing football without feeling he is under paid.

Link to Mallett being "close" to being traded for a second? Surely, you'd be able to provide sound evidence.

It's great to go in a draft without feeling like you have to take a certain position. Competition, competition, competition... This is a huge part of their philosophy.
