Todd McShay mock draft 1
|
Quote:This would be the worst case scenerio. Either Allen or Garrett would be great picks. Naturally, there are no great choices worthy of the 3rd pick at q.b. or offensive tackle- both areas of great need. Hopefully someone will fall in love with one of the quarterbacks enabling the Jaguars to trade back and take either Adams or Cam Robinson. Even better, the Browns or 49ers will reach for Trubisky so the Jags get Allen or Garrett. QB trumps every position. Someone is bound to fall in love and reach for one.

Quote:I think if someone offered as much as teams offer for QBs, they would have taken it. Not necessarily. Sometimes you have players you are so confident in, you wouldn't deal them away for anything. I remember being in a mock draft several years ago and I was representing the Jaguars. I never, ever trade up and 99% of the time I'm against it, but I was so confident in Andrew Luck, I would've given up just about anything. I ended up offering 3 first round picks as well as a 2nd and a 3rd. The guy who had Indy's pick told me "no way". I realize that I would basically be "giving up the farm", but he was the only player I ever felt that strongly about acquiring. Ever since then, I've pretty much been in favor of trading down.

Quote:I think if someone offered as much as teams offer for QBs, they would have taken it.. The Ravens tried to trade up to 4 last year for Ramsey. So, we're talking one spot. Quote:.So it still didn't happen right? I'm genuinely curious when the last time a team traded up in the top 3 for something other than a QB. We show less advertisements to registered users. But I think teams that feel they are closer to competing for playoffs might make a run at Romo, Kap, and some of these veterans. Sounds like the Jets are in play for a QB. <a class="bbc_url" href='http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/jets-hot-north-carolina-mitch-trubisky-article-1.2910818'>http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/jets-hot-north-carolina-mitch-trubisky-article-1.2910818</a>

Quote:How many more QBs are the Jets gon draft Might as well keep going until they get it right.
Adams over Peppers? I guess this is why McShay is a talking head and not an actual talent evaluator. I'm always amazed that this whiney, snakey little twerp with a full staff of interns and resources has a job.

Haven't seen a convincing argument yet for Peppers being a top 10 talent in this draft.

I don't think the Jags will be drafting a safety in 2017, at least not high.

I'm always amazed that this whiney, snakey little twerp with a full staff of interns and resources has a job. Adams is way better than Peppers as a pure Safety prospect. Quote:Adams over Peppers? <p style="text-align:center;">But that same man can get lost in the sauce." Quote:Haven't seen a convincing argument yet for Peppers being a top 10 talent in this draft.I'm not saying he is. Because I've seen 2 Michigan games this season and that is the extent of my Peppers knowledge. However... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...pfive-pick <p style="font-family:arial, verdana, helvetica;color:rgb(34,34,33);">And there's no reason for the Michigan star to complain about this, either: An NFC personnel executive has projected him as a top-five draft choice and compared him to former Pittsburgh Steelers star Troy Polamalu. "He's a top five pick in my mind," the executive told NJ.com. "He's unbelievable. He's the most versatile player I've ever scouted. He does it all for (Michigan). I think at our level, he's a safety, he reminds me of Troy Polamalu. I don't think I'd use him on offense. He could be a good return man for you, though. What he is, is just a phenomenal athlete. But he's more than that, because he's tough and he's smart, too." <p style="font-family:arial, verdana, helvetica;color:rgb(34,34,33);">"He's better than Jalen Ramsey, so there's that," the scout said. "He's a safety, but you can match him up if you want. He can take on the better tight ends, Jordan Reed man to man. You can put him in the slot. You can blitz him, play him deep. He's going to be a difference maker for a defense.'' <p style="font-family:arial, verdana, helvetica;color:rgb(34,34,33);">NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein has compared Peppers to Arizona Cardinals star Tyrann Mathieu. The one knock on Peppers like Ramsey, is they dony create turnovers. Thats the huge difference between those 2 than guys like Reed, Polamalu, and Mathieu. Not trying to put Mathieu on Reed and Polamalu level though. 2 future first ballot HOFers
Quote:I'm not saying he is. Because I've seen 2 Michigan games this season and that is the extent of my Peppers knowledge. Eh, Troy was more productive and better in coverage than Peppers had shown so far. He's a far better athlete than Troy, but as an actual football player, I've been left kinda cold watching him play. The Mathieu comparison baffles me because he's never played at the level that Tyrann did on defense before the drug issues popped up.
The thing about Peppers is he isn't a very good safety prospect compared to someone like Suo Cravens who the Redskins drafted last year around #20.
He's basically another Deone Buchanan, Cardinals call him a MLB but in reality he's a weak side run and hit LB, and an average one at best. Peppers is over hyped because of the occasional run on offense and the special teams ability which is probably his best assets as a prospect. |
