Todd McShay has Blake Bortles to Jacksonville
|
Not to pile on but I dont like the Gabbert comparison either.
Gabbert is elite physically. The height, the body size, the arm strength, the athleticism. He has everything physically. Smarts? The guy is really smart and killed it on the wonderlic. Why has he failed? Because he is chicken little and doesnt do well in pressure situations. Bortles isnt on the same level physically. Doesnt have the arm. And I dont think he is as mobile either(at least not as fast). Although physically he may be stronger. What Bortles has is the winning "it" factor. He doesnt cower under pressure and can make plays that win games. However his question is he good enough to do it in the NFL. He isnt bad at anything but he isnt really elite at anything either. He is just a good all around football player. But is he maxed out in college? ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff. I'd like to know why people keep saying Gabbert is athletic. I have never once watched him play and thought, "Man, that's an athletic quarterback". He is 'athletic' because he ran a decent 40 yard dash years and years ago at the combine. In a long distance straight line he has decent speed, which of course doesn't ever happen on the field. That's the extent of his athleticism to me. He has no quick twitch gene and he has no agility.
Hell, Henne shows more short area burst and decisiveness as a runner...and Bortles shows 10x more athleticism on the field than Blaine ever has.
Quote:What reasons did he give for that prediction? Is Bortles really an elite quarterback worthy of a top five pick? Im an admitted Teddy diehard but Bortles looks good. Real good. Go on youtube and watch his games. He sort of reminds me of a less refined Luck, which still isn't bad.

Extremely stiff like he had to put everything into it just to move his legs. Quote:I'd like to know why people keep saying Gabbert is athletic. Because he is athletic. His vertical, broad jump, and 3 cone beat out Kaepernick who everyone considers athletic. But Gabbert doesnt play athletic. He plays scared and doesnt look like he knows where he is going when he runs. Its all mental. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Haven't seen a QB take a knee that well since Eli Manning against the Bucs...
I have noticed that his deep ball accuracy is good when he steps into his throws. Like his 64-yard completion at the end of that Temple game was a beautifully thrown ball. He just needs to trust his arm more. He won't be able to run as much either in the pros.

Quote:I'd say his deep accuracy is possibly his best trait. Certainly not a weakness at least. Please stop quoting that. I've seen it on this board before, and It's misleading. Greg Peshak finished charting all his games and he came out at 55%. @NU_Gap: Final tally on Bortles, 55% completion percentage on 20+ yard passes. Bridgewater at 51% on deep passes @NU_Gap: Favorite stat of the year so far: Teddy B completed 82% of his passes when rolling right. That's just...what. Quote:Please stop quoting that. Quote:55% is still pretty good on deep balls. Looks like you read the post wrong. What I saw was Bortles has a higher percentage (55) than Bridgewater (51) completion rate on pass attempts at least 20 yards long. It is important to note that these percentages are meaningless if any of the incompletions were not the quarterback's fault and they did not attempt the same number of passes.

Quote:If so may be we can fuse them together like in Dragonball Z and end up with one competent quarterback.Blaike Gabbortle -- Blaine's goldilock/good look and Bortle's toughness? Hmm...I think Pete Prico might *explode*. On a totally different subject: Superman a.k.a HeeRo got banned again? What did he do this time?
Just watched the 4 cutups of Bortles on draftbreakdown.com. I'm totally fine with him at 3.
Id like to see more touchdowns from a top 5 QB
22 TDS is good, not great Numbers are not the end all, but if a college QB is going to be good at the next level, you expect to see really good numbers. Their level of competition has not been the best either. I would expect to see a better td/int ratio. Im not saying dont draft him; im saying getting him at 3 is a reach
Quote:Id like to see more touchdowns from a top 5 QB All statistics are misleading. Scouts break down every play to see where those numbers are coming from because the numbers alone are meaningless. But if you have to make a big deal about numbers, think about this one: his time on the 40-yard dash. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Pass. No thanks on Bortles.
If you're going to draft a Franchise-QB in the top 3, and sign him to 4 or 5 years, he needs to be one of those 'once in a generation' type of QBs, and I mean that. There are great guys coming out every single year(looks like Winston, Mariotta, and Hundley next year just to name a few). I promise guys, you can get just as good a QB(IMO better), by waiting till the 3rd or 4th round and getting Mccarron, Mettenberger, Boyd, or Murray for much cheaper. And i you don't like him, you can still get Marcus Mariotta next year. Please don't bet our future on this UCF guy. Listen: Teddy and Manziel. Those are the only 2 QBs who deserve to be drafted in the first round this year, and I think the only two who will. Forget Blake, he wouldn't be a top 4-QB if Winston were eligible and Mariotta were coming out.
I want 3 players. Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel. Jaguars have the number 3 pick. Just give me one of those 3 at 3, and I'm happy.
My top 6 favorite posters on these boards Deacon Pirkster Shack Del Rio Haterade Hurricane Badger
Bortles is a better prospect than manziel. I honestly don't think it's that close either.
