3 points there, the defense had nothing to do with it. They stopped the Ravens from advancing.

That's happened quite a few times this season. Heck, the KC game was almost nothing but possessions starting in FG range. Defense holds in 3 downs,, KC nails 3 points.

That's not what happened. Tucker's game winning 53 yard field goal came after Baltimore blocked Myers 52 yard field goal and moved the ball down the field killing most of what was left on the clock before Tucker, one of the best kickers in the league, nailed the 53 yarder. They ended up getting 22 yards on the drive as they started on their 43 yard line. Also, Blake took a 9 yard sack right before our blocked FG attempt, the one thing he absolutely couldn't do in that situation.

We then had just over a minute left after Tucker hit his FG to get ourselves back into FG range for what would be a FG attempt to win. Blake essentially sacked himself on 2nd down by running out of bounds 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage instead of throwing the ball away. That and an offensive holding call on 3rd down ensured we wouldn't get another first down and the game was over.

My bad, it wasn't the Ravens game. It was against the Bears in the 4th qtr.

I had to go back and look.

The Bears (starting at the Jags 29 yard line) came out and ran 6 plays for 14 yards,, and then Barth kicked a 32 yard FG (line of scrimmage the Jags 15 yd line,,kicked from the 22).

No worries. It caused me to go back and look at the Ravens game because it happened so early in the season my memory of what transpired had faded a bit. In reviewing it, I was reminded what a comedy of errors it was on our part and most of those errors were on Bortles. It was another game given away on a silver platter though the original spreadsheet I put together didn't illustrate it as clearly as the Texans, Chiefs, Lions and Broncos games.

The way we lost that game was indeed atrocious, unable to even kick a FG or get a first down when repeatedly getting turnovers in the Ravens 40, Bortles taking a sack that made us kick a way longer FG (which was missed), Bortles again for the final drive getting sack when we have no timeouts after scrambling all around the field for like 6-7 seconds without even throwing the ball away...and other situations of course which you already included.

Terrible.

Bortles leads the league with 15 interceptions. Osweiler isn't far behind with 13. If you look at my two posts illustrating each team's gaffes, the difference is clear. Only one of Osweiler's interceptions hamstrung his defense. All 12 of the others gave his defense a shot at preventing points from being scored. He at least takes care of the football on his side of the field and then apparently takes more risks as he gets closer to mid-field and crosses into the opponent's territory which is what you should probably do as a QB regardless of how good your abilities are. 8 of Bortles' interceptions put the opponent in scoring position or in the endzone. It's absurd.

Basically with Allen or Henne at QB we would probably have 5 or 6 wins with mistake free game manager at QB. Sucks when your top 3 pick from 3 years ago can't even muster the dreaded "game manager" title. We need a new QB.

Bortles sucks because our defense is the #26 ranked defense in the league. We all know that.

Assigning an additional FG to the Jaguars offense puts the defensive scoring at 273, but that doesn't even change the ranking.

In all you could say that the D is not responsible for a forty-burger.

Agree.

Looking at a lot of defensive rankings on NFL,, the Jags defense are doing really well in some areas.

The key thing with them though is definitely the takeaways and sacks.

But, I really think (as others have stated) that those areas are skewed due to teams quite often holding leads, running the ball, not making risky throws for portions of games.

The defense is really starting to come around. We gotta remember that DC focus "mainly" on the offensive side the first couple years. Only the past two years did he take a defensive player with the first picks, and then infused alot of FAs the past 2 years.

If they pick a defensive guy in the 1st round again (which is likely), the Jags defense should REALLY start being a good unit in the next couple seasons.

I can picture an offensive selection in round one, however, if they do go defense, I wouldn't mind seeing a player able to successfully supplant Odrick and Alualu as the strongside DE. Just whatever they do... hopefully they don't reach for such a player if he's not there. That's what Gene Smith did twice.

Here's a look at the 2015 season of gaffes for the Jaguars. I routinely read posts on this board that say our offense was fine last year. I disagree. Bortles was still making the same mistakes. He was making some big plays last year for sure, but those seem to have dried up this year. He was, however, still hamstringing our defense on a regular basis and was a major reason we lost games that were otherwise in question. You simply can't consistently spot the other team points and expect to win many games.

Bortles had 10 interceptions last year where he put the opponent in scoring position if not the endzone. He has 8 such instances so far this year with 4 games to go. Not much difference. The one silver lining gleaned from comparing last year's spreadsheet to this year's is that our defense is getting off the field with only allowing a FG on a regular basis after these gaffes whereas almost every time last year they were unable to do anything and the opponent just marched the short field into the endzone. It's some confirmation of what our eyes should be telling us this season. The one exception being in the season opener last year against the Panthers where we held them to a FG. The instance against the Jets was a game ending interception and the Jets just took a knee to finish the game. As a team, we gave up 448 points last year. Obviously I wouldn't credit that all to the defense based on the above numbers, but I'm not here to argue that our defense was good last year because it wasn't.

From a different perspective... Spotted points per game for 2016.

Jags 5.5 ppg

Titans 3.42 ppg

Texans 2.08 ppg

Colts 1.92 ppg

Patriots 0.25 ppg

32.32% of games are decided by 5 points or less. If you're following what I've done in this thread and agree that it's reasonable to assign these points to the offense or special teams (I know Jags02 doesn't), then by extrapolation our Offense/ST is statistically giving away almost 1 out of every 3 games that would have otherwise been wins with sloppy play on Offense and/or ST. What you'd prefer to see with these numbers is that the gaffes occurred in as few games as possible, but that's not what we're seeing with the Jags this season. In fact the only game the Offense and/or ST didn't have a major gaffe that led to points for the other team was in the Colts game in London.
