I think people forget how truly inept our offense was with gabbert under center.


Yeah, BbInt sucks. But gabbert was on a whole other level. And remember that our best wr back then was Mike (MT80) Thomas.


We were bad back then. Epically bad.

As bad as at looks right now, it's still better than that crap show a few seasons ago.

Blackmon made plays with Henne and Gabbert..  Robinson has not made plays all year.  Hurns has dropped multiple wide open balls.  They use lee as a gadget player or on crossing routes that Bortles doesn't hit accurately.  We have an average wide receiver core.  None of these guys beat you play after play.  No one is running wide open ever, all of them have to make contested catches routinely because they don't get great seperation.  That is not above average.

 

This is a scheme issue. You cannot base your offense on your WR's consistently winning one on one matchups against CB's unless you have great WR's and/or a great QB who can throw guys open, keep plays alive, and hit pin point openings, a la Aaron Rodgers before 2014. 

 

You have to run wide receiver trees that actually free guys up. That is what most of the league does. That is what the spread passing game is designed to do. They actually had a few drives today where they did that, but no where near enough. Instead they keep running those timed snap back routes at the boundaries that Robinson and Hurns are not catching at the rate they did last year when they were near automatic.
