Does Anyone Get The Feeling That Caldwell Has Mailed This Season In? Part 3
|
Quote:How is it possible that KC can be the worst team in the league last year, and now 4-0, and the jags looking to have the worst team in league history? Already ready for a new GM. Because KC wasn't the worst team in the league talentwise. They had Charles, Bowe, Albert, Hali, Houston, D Johnson, Flowers, Berry. They had talent on their roster.

Quote:If I had the same production at work as Caldwell I would no longer have a job. fire Caldwell! So you'd get fired at the equivilent of your first week on the job? I guess McDonald's isn't a patient as they used to be. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
Is there a coincidence that the two sport franchises that Khan owns are the worst in their respective leagues....probably. Fulham with Khan at the helm, spent peanuts
on new sighnings this offseason, now once a decent team just a year ago, is the worst club in the Premier League bar none. In the Premier league you do or die by how much money you spend. Khan choose not to. Jags, too...have the largest cap room in the Nfl...but..Caldwell Khan...had to replace "expensive" good players with cheap street scrubs and a cheap coach. I guess rebuilidng around here must come down to a price...or GM doesnt know what the heck he;s doing.
Quote:Is there a coincidence that the two sport franchises that Khan owns are the worst in their respective leagues....probably. Fulham with Khan at the helm, spent peanuts All I've heard is how bad the 2-14 team from last year was but you're crying about all those "good" players that didn't get resigned? Would you people make up your minds? “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
Quote:In fairness I think Blackmon has been a GREAT addition, and Marks has played well, I'm just arguing against the statement that we cut starters to evaluate young guys to build around. I think it's important to note that none of the guys you mentioned were cut, they just weren't resigned. We cut players like Robinson, Landry, Shipley, Ross, and Mosley to get younger. Exactly, those guys had a choice about coming back here. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Quote:He's owned Fulham for like 2 months So what. He should've dropped like a Bajillionty dollars (or pounds, or Euros or whatever they use over there) on a bunch of new players to make them great already. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
Quote:That's fair still think we made some bad choices in the cuts but that's fair. Knighton's the only choice I didn't like, but I'm guessing they thought Miller/Marks would be at least equal to him. We tried for Cox and he ended up getting $20M and $10+M guaranteed, which is a gamble because of his injury history. I like Smith and think he can still play at a good level for another year or two, but starting Hayes and playing rookies gives us a chance to see if we have a future starter at the position. He's also playing with much better players in Baltimore which definitely doesn't hurt his play. In the end, we really won't be able to tell if this strategy is a success or failure for us for at least another year, but I agree with the style Caldwell went about it. Quote:So you'd get fired at the equivilent of your first week on the job? I guess McDonald's isn't a patient as they used to be. yes, McDonalds would fire me if I burnt down the building the first week I was there!
I've been saying this for months, if there is a season to tank this is the season. The prize is one of the best QB prospects in the last 15 years, only Andrew Luck will grade out higher. The Jaguars brass recognized this the moment David Caldwell took over and are positioning themselves to take a game changer at the most important position in all of sports. A QB like Teddy Bridgewater can singlehandedly change the fortunes of a franchise (on and off the field) for a very long time.

I went with the simple evaluation, they finished last! fire Caldwell!
Knighton played like garbage last year. He isn't better than Marks. Cox, as others have mentioned, was always getting hurt. Mathis was done. To me, releasing Darryl Smith was the only questionable call.
The secondary really is better than what we had last year, considering that our two starters last year played mostly hurt and the backups were awful. There is more depth in the secondary. Almost every move Caldwell made was an upgrade at their respective positions over last year. But I expect even some of them to be replaced and upgraded as time goes Gene Smith and Shack ran this team into the ground for over a decade. It won't take that long to fix this team, but it won't happen overnight, either.

The worst possible situation would've been winning 4-5 meaningless games effectively taking us out of position to select Bridgewater, that wont happen however.

It wasn't questionable to release Smith because, and this is important, THEY DIDN'T! “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
