Florida Times Union Endorsing Trump

#41

Quote:I figured that out a little late. Now it is not an option in a worst case scenario because the Senate Republicans promised to block any Justice nominee, so the court has only eight judges.

I read if neither candidates gets 270, the U.S. House of Representatives will take over. That would be good news for Trump because the Republicans are in charge.
If the election is referred the the House of Representatives, each state's delegation would be permitted to cast a single vote for that state. In that situation, yes, Trump would likely come out with the win. Going back over the last 50 years or so, as the parties were shifting into what we know them to be today, Democrats have traditionally been strong in the larger, more heavily populated states. Republicans have been favored by the smaller, more rural states. There are more of the latter than the former.

Quote:To a large extent, yes. There is no doubt in my mind that the Bush family decided there was no way W. would lose Florida, and while the Jeb Bush administration may not have broken any laws, they certainly selectively enforced them in such a way that their intentions of seeing Bush win the state were clear.

One thing for sure: it was not a coincidence that this happened in Jeb Bush's state.

If a 3rd party candidate wins at least one state and no one gets 270 or more electoral votes,  that would open the door for him/ her to become the next Presidential of the United States.

I read a couple articles that claim Donald Trump can lose Utah or Nevada to a third party candidate. Utah is traditionally one of the reddest states in America (mostly Mormons). Arizona also is traditionally Republican and becoming a tossup.

Here is the really tricky one: Maine can be split. For some reason the "winner takes all" law does not apply to the 2nd District there.

The same applies to the 3rd Congressional District in Nebraska.

Nebraska is deep read. I don't think that will have any effect on electoral college votes.

Why is a split state possible where there is a winner take all system?

Obama won an electoral vote in Nebraska in 2008.

I believe the State Legislatures in Maine and Nebraska passed laws regarding how electoral votes are determined.

The U.S. Constitution says a candidate must win the entire state, not certain districts in them. How is tweaking that at the state level legal?

A state is allowed to use what's called the 'Congressional District Method' to determine how electoral votes are divided up.

The T-U is so respected, no media outlet outside of the area picked up this endorsement.

Quote:Not surprising considering Jacksonville is a city that desperately wants America to be how it was before the Civil Rights Movement. They can endorse whoever they want, but early reports are they are going to call Hillary corrupt and endorse him under the pretense of conservative values. You know, like those great conservative leaders who appeared in adult films, regularly appeared on Stern, brag about grabbing women by the [BAD WORD REMOVED] and have wives who posed for sexy model shoots naked.

Hey, my Conservative party died a long while ago. Welcome to the new Republican Party with 40% more stupidity.

To keep leveraging conservative values as the reason they are endorsing a candidate who lacks them is really pathetic. Could they not find reasons to endorse him which weren't utter bull [BLEEP]?

LOL Donald Trump lost tons of support from leading Republicans long before he was caught saying the P word 11 years ago. The Billy Bush tape caused that to accelerate. What do Republicans have to back up a known rapist?

I'd love to find a single person that is going to base their vote on which candidate our newspaper endorses.  Nevertheless, I'd rather be the one that gets such endorsements.
