Coumadin is being used to treat my blood clots.  I had a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and will be on blood thinners forever.  Anti-inflammatories, Asprin, NSAIDs, Muscle Relaxants, cranberries and green teas all amplify the blood thinning and can make me have abdominal problems.

 

Coumadin is 30 cents for 90 Days of medicine but you have to submit to blood testing every few weeks.  Pradaxia, Eliquis and Xalreto are the take and forget meds but have other side effects like a huge monthly cost.  A community specialist was willing to help me with long term financing plans.  Can you believe that?  Seriously financing for a darn drug.  Yeah give me the rat posion aka Coumadin/Warfin.

My 2 cents as a "medical professional", see disclaimer. As long as you take consisent amounts of food like cranberries they can titrate to the right level. It just has to be consistent.


All the other 'take and forget' meds you mentioned have no reversal agent and would cause life threatening bleeding if you got into a bad accident. Warfarin has a reversal agent, Vit K.


Whoever did your medicine education did a great job, or you read real thoroughly. Good way to take charge of your care.
