The last Jedi (spoilers)

Well, at least Rian Johnson's new SW trilogy will have nothing to do with Skywalker-verse. I guess that's a plus.

Article

"All we know about the trilogy at this point is that it will be completely "separate from the episodic Skywalker saga" and Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never visited."

I'm not one to walk into a theater for a new SW film expecting anything terribly cinematic.

I buy the popcorn and expect merely to be entertained.

So - I enjoyed the movie. There were moments that could have been done much better IMO and I've always hated the Adam Driver casting decision - but I enjoyed the movie.

I appreciate the fact they used Fisher but her odd sinus issues after all the cosmetic surgery made her voice very strange at times and detracted from the intent of a few scenes. But again - I enjoyed it.

Honestly this isn't for the old timey fans and they don't really care. The less you read and or immersed yourself in all the books and toys, the better off you are with this almost reboot. My wife wasn't a fan back in the day and loved it. Girl power is all disney is going to do. I like Star Wars rebels and they are very "girl" centric but I don't care because the stories work.

This doesn't but they could care not one bit about an old guy like myself. It was entertaining but this is the first time I eye rolled and that is something when you consider the prequels.

They should have finished this trilogy for us old timers in a manner which is fitting for what we know, otherwise why even bring in any of the Skywalker storyline and the characters. I am a fan solely of the movies and all I wanted was something in line with what has been the "theme" or "storytelling style" for the last seven movies to wrap things up with Han, Luke and Leia while introducing new folks to carry on the SW-verse. I think they did a good job with TFA. TLJ not so much. I don't completely hate it, but the few things that were bad screwed the whole movie over.

Agree but what is done is done.  It is probably a good thing I'm not as gung ho for this stuff anymore.

It's the deconstruction of the norms of western civ that we find present in all Hollywood productions these days. Star Wars used to be a moral tale of the dangers of evil and a young man's journey to confront his past and decide his future played out against a battle for the entire galaxy between tyranny and plucky underdogs. Now its all how about how there really isn't any evil and the boundaries and limitations of society are just there because stuffy old people from long ago didn't know any better and girls rule brah.
