U.S. owes black people reparations for a history of ‘racial terrorism,’ says U.N. panel

Quote:Guess we owe Asian railworkers, Irish, American Indian ,etc reparations.

Now. What if one is an immigrant? Say, a Canadian or Brit or German who moved here 5-10-15 years ago? Their ancestors had nothing to do with it. Their tax dollars have to go towards this?

Dumb question. Of course it would.

If it is soooo bad here, then I would agree to give reparations if some of the money is used to move to a better country, or their original origin.

Sorry. You were forced to come here. Yanked from your homeland. Here's a ticket back and enough money to get started.

How many would take up that offer?

Then, it's off to give back stolen land from Natives.

Where does it end?

There actually have been cash payments made to Native Americans

and their tribal governments/reservations. Colleges are now segregating campuses based on the demands of black students. Will they want their own independent reservations soon? Would that satiate the demand for reparations?

AND YOU THINK ITS ALL FAIR NOW?

Hilarious

/sarcasm. ZOMG - I just now realized - just now - that most white people really don't "get it". LOL.

Most of us aren't asking for reparations or apologies - just ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of the fact that EVERYTHING was stacked in your favor - and not mine. Get it now?

And I hope you don't believe racism ended just because it's now technically illegal. But you do - don't you?

Embarrassing.

You've heard this before, I'm sure. But there was a huge bridge built when it took ALL voters who supported the first AA and put him in office. Those are huge strides.

Now, younger generations feel the roles are being reversed with specialized testing. (Jax Firefighters) affirmative action, quota hiring, etc.

Sure it was difficult for minorities. Thank the Kings and other leaders who fought for recognition. Thank those for the Obamas, Colin Powells, Condoleeza Rice, etc. Sure..small steps. But steps they are.

Maybe the reparations can be used to repair damage done by rioters when they felt necesssry to represent themselves that way.

Has racism ended? Nope. Never will. It's worldwide. Whether skin color, religion, sex, nationality. It's one thing that distinguishes us from animals, that makes them more civilized.

Hopefully most have acknowledged what you ask. Most want to move on.

That's why things like athletics, music, etc should never be taken out of school. Those things bond ALL participants who realize they need each other to achieve a common goal.

Well in that case, if that's all you want, fine.

I hereby ***offically*** acknowledge that as a white person, in a lot of ways I have had things a lot easier than if I had been a black person.

I guess it ends when anyone with Neanderthal DNA gets a check from people with Cro-Magnon blood.

well day one in this country for my family was 1907.

I think we live in a country with a black president.  I know a large portion of the military is black and many are in higher positions.  There are numerous rich black people.  Colin Powell was a black person in a very prominent position.  I wouldn't say its all fair but I would probably say its the most fair it has been in the history of this country.

I think plenty of people have acknowledged things were stacked against you.  Does america get no credit for affirmative action, or any of the programs put in place to help black people.

Racism isn't illegal its frowned upon.  I know for a fact racism is still around and it works all ways.  My being white means I privileged my way to my current standing in society, which isn't even that high to be honest.  But my white privilege didn't pay for school, and neither did my parents.  My service to this country paid for my education.  Then when my GI bill was used up I used my own private funds to pay for more school.  Funds I didn't get because I was white, funds I earned because I worked hard.  What do I know of hard work you might ask?  Go get your CNA license and work in a freaking nursing home and see how long you last.  You know not one of the black ladies and men I worked with or helped take care of ever called me a racist or told me I was privileged, they just liked the way I worked and took care of patients. Hell some of them even complained to me about racist people who worked and lived there.

Everything was stacked against the president and he became the president.

Quote:How much reparations should we give every black citizen in the United States to satisfy them? $1k? $15k? $100k? $1 million?

Should we amplify affirmative action x10 for blacks? Should we give every black citizen free healthcare and college?

What if instead of reparations we offered free flights and housing in Africa or their ancestral home?

Does anyone believe that these actions would satiate them or would they end up demanding more reparations or privilege over non-black citizens?

Let me address:

We were born into the serf class of what seems

like the equivalent of the Feudal System. There is definitely no dollar figure - except to somehow {via socialism?} make all things magically equal FROM THE START. Which is impossible.

BTW - this doesn't apply to all Blacks, nor solely to Blacks. Poor white trash has been treated similarly throughout history which is why I continuously stump for recognition of income inequality - not racism. Poor farmer had his land stolen by the rich lawyer or banker in "white person history". OJ was treated like a wealthy person by the cops...

Yeah yeah, we all recognize that life isn't fair. But like you learned in Animal Farm - and throughout history - some people in power made sure it's more fair for their favored people.

So the plans and programs already existing are not enough to create a closer fairness. The people at the top -- THAT WERE BORN INTO THE WEALTHY CLASS and always existed in that class, sometimes for multiple generations -- maybe they owe the serfs a little help now.

Hope this helps you understand the actual issue. Like I posted previously, you would have to closely look back 20 - 30 years at a time to trace why a black person (statistically) was born at such a significant disadvantage to a white person.

Let's do 30 -

1985 - Whites dominated all the wealth except for a few black musicians and athletes. Mostly due to wealth and prosperity initiated by their parents and grandparents.

1955- Whites dominated all wealth, mostly due to wealth and prosperity initiated by their parents and grandparents

1925- Whites dominated all wealth, mosly due to wealth and prosperity initiated by their parents and grandparents

1895- see the pattern developing in reverse?

Thanks man - that means a lot.

Suppose step 1 in starting to fix the problem is understanding the problem.

Racism is illegal and unlawful - think about the court cases...

Also, I think you skipped my income inequality point.

No, not all things are earned - many were handed down generationally. Income inequality proves this - but you have to understand it. That is truly the myth of America - that all men (and women) are created equal. Never happened.

So you are in favor of a massive estate tax. Is 65% high enough? Should it be 80 or 90%?

No, because estate tax doesn't pay me anything.

Not asking for any taxes

Racism is not illegal.   Discrimination is illegal in many cases.  But racism is not and never will be illegal.  We live in a free society and people are free to think what they want, and to say what they want with some very small limitations.

Wait, you said you didn't want to be paid anything. Now you do?

Also, an estate tax of 90% will stop privileged white kids from inheriting all that wealth you have an issue with. Instead it will go straight into the coffers of the state where it can be distributed to everyone equally and without bias (or maybe it can be paid to you as reparations).

Ha ha - there it is. Thanks dude.

It's more like wealthy privilege though...

Poor white folks don't even get the "legal" benefits: affirmative action - that a black person gets.

Class warfare or in lighter terms = income inequality.

I really have difficulty responding to your posts because you typically dont seem to understand what I have said. Re-read all my posts in this thread and try again.

I DON'T NEED YOUR MONEY. I am fine.

If it was done as a tax, that $$$ doesn't go to me nor any other black person I know.
