I would bench Walker

It is pretty natural for DE/pass rushers to take a few years to develop especially toolsy guys that don't have any moves. But he is not there yet now, and during the busy course of a season it is difficult to learn that kind of stuff.

So my question is, are reps where Walker is rushing with bad technique on the edge helpful? Would it make more sense say on 3rd downs/obvious pass plays to move him inside and have Key on the edge?

He needs to learn what moves are countering his, and how to beat those. You don't learn that by not doing at all.

I don't know that technique is bad as much as he just doesn't have a refined set of moves to call on when he's challenged. Every DE can bull rush. He's gotta learn from OT hand placement when a swim, spin or punch is the better option, and keep doing it until he doesn't even think about it.

Exactly and you don't learn those things from sitting on the bench... The guy has literally only played in six NFL games

My point is players get lit up literally all game long and a hand to the quarterback helmet is just a ridiculous league rule...

Wasn't a comment on you particularly even though we disagree here. Ryan got his head snapped back, it was and should've been a penalty. What's the pisser is when that stuff happens to TLaw (or Minshew, Bortles, Henne, Gabbert, etc...) and the refs swallow the whistle.

One must understand the importance of development before considering Benching an player such as Walker. Yes, within his first five games of his professional football career, he has made Two mistakes that probably cost the Jaguars. Tearing him down mentally by Benching him will potentially set him back. The media will have a ball.

As this is considered by some, also consider Benching others (w/o mentioning names) that has equally hurt the Jaguars. Well have a few starters that'll need a pair of tweezers.

Time Will Tell.

Oh I know and I didn't/don't take it personally.... It's partially why I think it's a BS rule.... Cuz it's not even enforced properly throughout the league... but then again a lot of penalties aren't...but the roughing the passer is by far the worst... I've literally seen a hand wave in front of Brady face and it's been called lol.... Remember when foles got hurt... he was literally body slammed to the ground... players full force body weight on him... broke his collarbone and wasn't called... I know you and me can write a book on all the times it's happened to our quarterback with no flag

It is becomning prevalent in alot of sports these days

Where even if a hand slips up during a tackle and slides across or makes contact with the face or head area its a penalty

Holding hands is now considered third base. Boobies being flashed is now a homerun.

Walker is not getting benched. I think a temporary benching for a series would be warranted if any further similar mistakes are made.

I was a lot more excited about him after the Preseason than I am now. He doesn't look like a #1 pick at all right now. Some bonehead plays and not much production since Week 1. Lloyd has stuck out more than him.

He is fine. Seems like a really smart, hard-working person. He has made a couple of mistakes early and he will learn from them. He has also made some 'wow plays' early and will continue to make those as his career goes on.

At the minimum a one week self ban.

He’s just gotta play more aware and look at the big picture. Those 2 bone headed mistakes can’t happen. The 1st one was ‘ok he will learn’. The 2nd one was ‘ok bro, like what’s going on man..that has cost us 2 games’

If the 3rd one costs us another game, fans will lose their minds.

Was a Roughing the Passer penalty. He reached out and hit him in the helmet. The play was an incomplete pass on 3rd down they were going to punt. Instead that penalty gave them a free 15 and they ended up scoring a TD on the drive.

Linebackers are often unblocked and can zero in on the ball carrier, whereas linemen have to fight through one or more blocks. Linebackers should lead in tackles because of this.

Benching, no. Keeping him off the field on third and long for a bit in critical situations. Maybe.

It's a legit call in today's game. But it's that bs where a lineman puts his hands up to stop a pass and he makes contact with the helmet incidentally. Bad luck. Not really boneheaded.

He's playing better so far in this game. Need to him to show up in the 2nd half though. If our offense marches down and scores on this opening drive we really, really need this kid to take over the next defensive outing. Needs to just wreck the whole drive. Draw another flag, get a sack, force a fumble, deflect a pass. Something. We might be looking at that RB screen here to Barkley on their first 2nd half possession.

Did people see the sack?  That's why you don't overreact and benvh him.
