I know Clowney is a name and Chaisson being underwhelming is an understatement, but if it's one or the other I think I'd still lean Chaisson. He's 24. It's still possible he matures into something this year. I know what Clowney is and over paid comes to mind. Chaisson is playing for about $2.5 million this year as well as for another contract from whoever. I think Clowney will get more than that considering he played last year for the Browns at a little under $10 million for the year. I don't think he commands that much now given the market for his services, but it will probably be double the $2.5 million at least. Again, if it's between the two, I think I'd just roll the dice on Chaisson or keep looking at potential trade opportunities for a pass rusher.
It would be very nice to see Chaisson develop the way Smoot developed. Smoot didn’t have any sacks his first year either, and I think he was a bit older coming out of college than Chaisson.
But still…. It’s time for Chaisson to contribute and get 3-5 sacks this year so he can stay in the league.

If we sign Clowney, we will have three 1st overall picks which would be an NFL record.
Chaisson is literally just out there. I watched him against Dallas and he doesn’t get into his ‘rush’ until about a half second after everybody moves. He knows his last days are coming soon.
Interesting take is we don't have pressure the QB issue. We have a get the QB on the ground issue.
2022 advanced Defensive stats Jags were: #2 in the league in QB Pressures #26 in the league in QB Sacks #6 in the league in QB Hurries
A new broom always sweeps clean.

I never saw Smoot do anything close to this ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kvkb-VtNrE0

No We have a "cover the middle of the field" problem. Opposing offenses know that they can get the ball off quickly against our zone linebackers and nickelback with impunity. It's not like Josh Allen was getting to the QB late on all of his pressures last year, it's that the QB had a wide open target quickly available on many of those pass rushes. Solve that problem and a solid portion of those pressures turn into sacks. 2nd year in the system for these ILBs and some competition at nickel should help. Additionally - Lageman and Shadrick recently spoke out of school a bit by revealing a trend they've seen during the no photos/no video portions of practice. The talk of a more aggressive blitz package is real. They made it sound as if they expect Caldwell to release the hounds this year.

Good. I mean honestly, if they're getting wide open across the middle with a guy or two in coverage, then screw it, send them on a blitz and maybe force a mistake. The WR/TE is going to be open either way lol

Yeah I know, Our Nickel corner is dog crap and our ILBs outside of Foye were rookies, to be expected. But on a side note, am I making this up in my head or did Dante Fowler not whiff on sacks almost every time he got in the backfield? The guy is a terrible passer, i've never been more sure a QB was gonna be a bust since Tim Tebow got drafted. Richardson is gonna be high strung and we just have to give him a welcome to the NFL moment. He'll make mistakes, it just depends on whether we make the play or not.

I'm not concerned with him picking us apart. I'm only concerned with the RPO stuff that we tend to struggle with. If Caldwell is really looking at throwing a ton more blitz packages out there I think we'll stop him pretty easily, especially if Taylor isn't playing. He looked panicked under pressure against Buffalo. Interested to see him a little more in preseason

Consistent pressure is almost always the way to force rookie QBs into mistakes Likely no different for one as woefully inexperienced as this guy |
