Quote:LOL at that one clueless guy that believes it was the only sack and that is all that is wrong with him. FYI...Steeler fans tolerated him and management replaced him. The LT position is a weakness and the answer is not an undersized (reach) guy recovering from an ACL with a history of playing like what we already have. It's a stop gap at best IF he beats out "Joke". Feel free to look up stats or game video that says I'm off base.

Check out this technique. Pretty Joeckel like huh? http://www.primogif.com/p/FLsOBRC6eoy8E

I think credit really should be given to Fowler. Heck, he was abusing anybody and everybody that lined up on the right side, including AJ Cann and Wells.

There was not one negative comment made in the entire article or in the comments section. The majority of Steelers fans were sad to see him go.

Beachum may not be the next Johnathan Ogden but he doesn't have to be. He just needs to be serviceable and add stability to the O-Line. If he's plays great then he'll be getting a nice check after we pick up his option. If not, no harm no foul. Big Ben experienced career lows in sacks when Beachum was starting. Is that just coincidence?

Quote:In fairness their not wearing pads and im sure Joeckel doesnt wanna have anything to do with hurting Fowler...

This being said from a guy who thinks Joeckel is trash..

Quote:Both - but..... Pads.... There are none
I see these posts and believe they have legitimate points.

But suddenly I remembered Lageman & Boselli saying words to the effect of "You can't tell who CAN play during OTAs, but you can tell who CAN'T."

Perhaps, with a legit pass rusher in front of him during OTAs, we have an even better evaluation of whether Joeckel can play (if the games over 2.5 years haven't told us enough).

That's all we really need from the entire OL.

We're almost at the point where we're scoring enough on average to expect to win nearly every week. Just need to keep marginally adding more points and have the defense do it's part to get opponents' scores down.

Yep, making it up...come on now. The article you linked even states that Big Ben's sack percentage improved when Beach was replaced with the ex-Army Ranger Villanueva. As for majority sad to see him go, there are people on this board now still crying about Monroe being replaced. That dude just got booted from the Ravens and will be sitting on his thumbs until someone gets injured. Does nobody question why the Steelers didn't offer Beach a high dollar contract? I mean PFF ranked him top 10. LOL. Why did the Jags only sign him on a one year deal?

From Steelerdepot.com:

"I understand LT is a premium position and Beach is the third best OL the team has."

"There is absolutely zero chance that the Steelers will hand this stiff $8-$9 million per year. If he hits the open market tell me one team that would pay him anything close to that. You are essentially negotiating against yourself with this guy. If I'm the Steelers, I make him a take-it-or-leave-it offer...$4-$5 million per year with a $3 million signing bonus. Watch him get bulldozed against the Ravens in that playoff game and tell me this bum is worth $9 million per year."

"Although I agree with you about Beachum being at worst a average left tackle. I definitely feel like we should give him a take it or leave it deal. IMO Beachum, Gilbert and Worilds were or are all average players for us that deserve take it or leave it deals."

"If you read the comment in relation to the thread? I stipulated that it would require specific circumstances for me to not worry about letting Beachum go.

That being said, I like Beach, but anyone with half an objective bone in his body can see he has some serious holes in his game. Like I said, I think he's at least an average OT, I'm just not totally convinced he's better than that yet."

Look, I get it, people are desperate for a LT, but the blind optimism is scary, especially when facts are staring them in the face. Meh.

What blind optimism? Very few, if any on this board has called him the savior at left tackle. Again, if he can be serviceable and provide stability to the O-Line then he's done his job. Anything more is just icing on top. I fully expect Caldwell to continue to build the line thru the draft regardless.

We signed beachum hoping he can be an average to above average starter. Someone who may give up a sack every now and then, not someone who is capable of allowing 5 sacks by himself in a single game

Agreed.

I'd love to see a LT early in the next draft...

... And a guard or center in the third.

I was going to attempt to photoshop Luke and some garbage, but that would have taken effort.

Just have to laugh about the hyperbole around Joeckel. While the guy is a bust from the standpoint of his draft position, he's not a bad tackle. For some perspective, he gave up 7.5 sacks last year. Beachum, the guy that is supposed to be the savior of the offensive line gave up 8 in 2014. If you're not happy with the way LJ plays, I get it, he should be a lot better but he's not even close to being terrible.

they're both top 5 first round picks, you should be very worried

but you probably already know he's a total bust so you're just numb to it now

Goes to show what a joke college football is in terms of the SEC bias.. both him and johnny football absolutely dominated that league and now... lmfao

Quote:What if Joeckel truly is better, better than average, and Fowler is just really, REALLY good...

???

We'll see. We don't know what Fowler can really do yet in the NFL until he suits up under the lights.

Encouraging, either way.
This is what I am thinking. Clearly Boselli 2.0 isn't on the roster. However, people saying that the o-line is trash are being a bit hyperbolic. There is good, young talent on the line. Is it a finished product? Clearly not. Could it be worse? Just look at the past couple of years. Can't fix every hole in the roster overnight, and Caldwell has done as good of a job as anyone could have done to this point. I feel that it's no secret that next offseason will be focused on the left side of the offensive line upgrades. Until then, it is what it is, and we have to hope it's enough to get the Jags to where they want to be. There are schemes to overcome weaknesses on the o-line. Hopefully an improved running game and even more explosive passing game will cover up some of those weaknesses.

Oh, and yeah, Fowler may just be that good too. We may not have Boselli 2.0, but we may have Brackens 2.0, and that ain't a bad thing!

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
