@P.Haze  That is because Paul Posluszny is a key core player on the Jaguars Defense, and when healthy is the best LB on the team.

He received poor grades from ProFootballFocus but they don't always get it right.

There is a reason Poz always plays in the middle: he would be much worse on the outside. Jack can play either inside or outside. So it is pretty obvious as long as Poz stays healthy, Jack should be the SOLB.

Since Jack can Play both linebacker and defensive back, I think they need to invent a new position for him. Maybe call it the Jack. It's a combination linebacker and defensive back that changes his assignment based on how the offense lines up.

These positions have actually been around for a while now. In Youth and High School ball, and sometimes even semi pro, they call them Spurs.


They are actually integral parts of the 4-2-5 Defense that has been run at TCU for the past few years.

Poz is great on first down and some second downs.   Poz sucks on third down.   Taking Poz out on some downs will probably extend his career.   He doesn't need to be running around out there trying to cover someone on third down.   So I think Poz is definitely a "starter."   But I don't think that means he plays a majority of downs necessarily.   Especially since most teams play nickle most of the time.

He's strong. Can shed tackles. He's okay in the run game when he gets there. He can bump the TE or RB. He only struggles when the receiver gets behind him.


Possibly Telvin at will, jack mlb, poz otto.

Malik Jackson and Marks pushing the middle.... With Gipson and Ramsey patrolling the backfield....

In 4-3 I think Jack will be otto OlB opposite telvin with Poz manning the middle. In Nickel situations i assure you it will be Jack and Tel in with poz taking a breather on the bench.


Only other real possibilities are injury/further decline from poz and Jack slides inside while skuta takes otto. They know just as much as we do the liability poz represents in 3rd down situations and jack represents a clear counter to that.As much as we like poz his age,decline and injury history plus the addition of jack makes him the easiest to replace of our current starting LBs.

They'll find ways to play him on early downs. Lots of options. (The hybrid box safety/LB role seems obvious)


But we can be pretty certain we'll see Jack, Telvin, Ramsey and Gipson out there on nickel downs....and that's gonna be a HUGE improvement over last season's nickel package.
