So ezpz just trade back and get one of these teams handing out 2018 1st rounders like candy. But if we want to target our guy and it would cost a 2018 1st rounder then it's no deal.

 

Funny how much less attractive giving up quality picks looks when the tables are turned. 

 

 

No. As I said before....... If we were a team who had a franchise QB, it would be a different situation. I would have no trouble trading up. We are "unsettled" at QB though and have a few other major needs as well, so I'm against giving up picks, especially in 2018. We need as much ammunition in that draft as we can get, in case we need to draft a QB. If we were a team like the Patriots, Steelers or Packers though and I saw a guy who I thought completed my team, I would have no problem trading up. It's a simple concept. The better you are, the less needs you have, the more you are willing to give up for a single elite player.

While Warford was not my first choice as a FA OG, he is far from a bust. Heck, the Saints just gave him 4 yrs at $34 million with $17 million guaranteed. Teams don't give that kind of money to OG's on their second contract if they are considered "busts." I would consider Lamp on par with Kelechi Osemele and Feeney on par with Kevin Zeitler. Dion Dawkins is comparable to a Jermon Bushrod or Ali Marpet. After Dawkins, there is a considerable drop though.

I was listening to the first draft podcast today with Mel and McShay and they both have lamp as the top olineman in this draft and Todd said he doesn't think he'll even make it to the Giants pick. Makes me think he'll go higher than we're anticipating at the moment.

I don't think Lamp makes it out of the first round and I have major doubts that Feeney lasts to our #35 pick also. Thus the interest in Dawkins at #35.

Looking around recent mock drafts I'm noticing Lamp going anywhere from #15 (Daniel Jermiah) to #29 where it appears there's little chance of the Packers passing on him. #23 and #26 are also distinct possibilities as the Giants and Seahawks can really use a guy like Forrest Lamp.


 

I agree the mid-20s are probably too far back for any team to trade up. The one time we saw a trade like that was when Caldwell was with the Falcons and he traded up for Julio Jones, but I don't see that kind of talent available at #4 to entice such a trade. So if we're to position ourselves to get Lamp, we'd want to trade up from #35. Even if the Lamp makes it past #29, he can go at any time and other teams might trade up. I've noticed a few mocks with him getting close by going to the Saints at #32, although I really don't see him making it all the way to #35, and I've only seen a couple mocks out of dozens with him doing as much. I've seen more with Cam Robinson falling to our second round pick.


 

So where to position ourselves. I'm seeing several recent mocks from nfl media with Lamp going to the Giants at #23. ...not as many as have him going to the Packers at #29. I'd say the best option would be to hedge your bets that he makes it into the 20s and then ensure you get him by trading with the Dolphins for the #22 spot. The other option would be to keep your fingers crossed that he gets to #28, and then making a move with the Cowboys. I don't like the idea of trying to get the #25 spot just in case the Seahawks take him at #26 because the #25 pick is the Texans and I hate trading within the division. 


 

I'll check out the charts to see just what it would take to land either the #22 pick or the #28 pick...

• To get the #28 pick we'd have to make up 110 points which equates to something like our #35 pick plus our 4th round pick and a 2018 4th round pick.
  
  
• To get all the way up to the #22 spot, we'd have to make up 230 points. That would mean our #35 and our 3rd round pick with us getting a 5th round pick in return.
  
  

The latter option is a tough one because there should still be some really good players in the early 3rd round who won't be there a round later.

I could go for a good Feeney vs Dawkins at #35 debate, but at this point I still prefer Dawkins and his power run game. I do think they'll both be there at #35, although I'm wondering if Robinson might be there as well.

Who cares where these guys have them. I have no clue why you guys live and die by mock drafts. Lamp is comparable to Zach Martin, hes worth it at 4.
