Jaguars coaching staff to coach in senior bowl for third straight year
|
Quote:Why is it embarrassing? Working at the Senior Bowl helped us a lot the last two years. Because it's the 3rd time. Why do you think Gus says he doesn't want to make it habit of it? Because coaching it means you suck and your team is picking at the top of the draft, again. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I think some of you guys are giving way too much credit to the Senior Bowl for some of our picks. Sure we coached a few of them but the bottom line is if they didn't have the tape to back it up it makes no difference. What Telvin did on the field at FSU ultimately made him a Jag. Not one game where this staff was working with God knows how many players and probably talked to each of them for 5 seconds, if at all.
Quote:He's not technically available right now but I think Hue Jackson is one. Sean Payton is not going anywhere. Lovie Smith would not accept an assistant position. Hue Jackson, Adam Gase, and Tom Coughlin are offensive guys seeking HC jobs. So obviously we can't get any of them. Quote:Sean Payton is not going anywhere. If you believed that nonsense Sean Payton spewed about staying in New Orleans you're crazy. All it boils down to is there wasn't interest, my guess is the Saints were asking too much. You don't have any clue what Lovie Smith would or would not do. Hue Jackson, Adam Gase, and Tom Coughlin would all fit based on how I understood the question.
I feel like I'm unusually entertained by the Senior Bowl. The coverage of Senior Bowl practice is also really entertaining with our staff. That being said, this has to be our last year doing this.

Quote:Because it's the 3rd time. Why do you think Gus says he doesn't want to make it habit of it? Because coaching it means you suck and your team is picking at the top of the draft, again. We never picked at the top of the draft. In fact the only reason we ever coached at the Senior Bowl was other teams fired their coaches.

I am not believing nonsense being spewed out about Sean Payton. THAT IS A FACTUAL REPORT about him staying in New Orleans. How can you not understand that? It does not matter if coaches "fit" here. If an OC job is not available, nothing else matters. And we are obviously not firing Greg Olson.
Quote:We never picked at the top of the draft. In fact the only reason we ever coached at the Senior Bowl was other teams fired their coaches. When he says "top of the draft" he doesn't mean the #1 pick. He most likely means top 5. And having the chance to coach in the senior bowl means your team just sucked. I'd rather be in the playoffs and be far far away from this senior bowl. Don't really care too much about it to be honest. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:When he says "top of the draft" he doesn't mean the #1 pick. He most likely means top 5. So he should have said "near the top of the draft." Of course it does. However there is another way to look at it. I would rather suck and go to Mobile than suck and not have a chance, so we can thank the Chargers for having a golden opportunity. Quote:McCoy might have turned it down That's very possible, being that the Chargers have several openings on their Coaching Staff. Quote:I'm wondering if the Chargers uncertainty of where they're playing next year had anything to do with it. I would be surprised if that was a significant factor, as the Chargers probably will continue to operate out of their current facilities for a while even if they get approval to move to the Los Angeles area. Like I expressed in the above reply, I think the most likely reason for the decision is the number of coaching staff changes. Mike McCoy might have multiple coaching staff openings entering the week in Mobile, AL. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:That's very possible, being that the Chargers have several openings on their coaching staff. That makes sense except for one thing: Last year Gus Bradley fired most offensive assistants. He hired Greg Olson at the Senior Bowl.
Quote:Per Phil savage on siriusXM NFL radio This is a good thing for many reasons, it gives Gus Bradley additional Head Coaching experience (which apparently he needs additional help in that matter), and gives him an inside look into potential draftees prior to the draft. In addition it aids in the Jacksonville Jaguars branding and he can potentially sway undrafted free agent rookies towards the team prior to negotiations. Quote:That makes sense except for one thing: Last year Gus Bradley fired most offensive assistants. He hired Greg Olson at the Senior Bowl. Who were the Offensive Assistants the Jaguars fired last year other than Offensive Coordinator Jedd Fisch? The Chargers fired 6 Assistant Coaches. That's a large number of openings that have to be filled.

Quote:Who were the Offensive Assistants the Jaguars fired last year other than Offensive Coordinator Jedd Fisch? I knew about the DC getting booted. Who were the other five Chargers assistants? One note about Dew's post: George Yarno has been on medical leave the last two years for cancer treatment. Quote:Yarno wasn't exactly fired; he was diagnosed with cancer. He may still be under contract so the team can continue to provide medical benefits to him. |
