Id bring Lewis back, why not? Run blocker and loves being a Jag, could end his career in Jacksonville, of course for the right price, but he's not getting anything special in the market. I know many are critical of Lewis, and he's not been a Gronk type receiver for us, but I will always respect Lewis and I think he's been a great player for us for many years.

 

 

I share your thoughts on Lewis. He's still a fantastic run blocker...not bad at pass blocking either... and he can be exciting when he actually does catch the ball. It's like he's going to break the Jaguars bank to sign him.

I'd rather us just draft a mid round QB for development over everyone available at this point. Draft, develop, if he turns into a quality product then flip him for a pick or two.

OT Sam Young - The massive LT provides decent depth depth at tackle and has been active all season, however, he's going into his 7th season and the Jaguars have a younger, quicker LT coming off IR in Josh Wells. I see Caldwell making him a fair offer while letting him walk if he's looking for more.


RB Bernard Pierce - With the addition of Jonas Gray and knowing that Corey Grant is coming off IR, I don't see Caldwell going out of his way to re-sign Pierce. However, the RB might become more attractive should the Jaguars part with Gerhart and the $3.5 mil in new money that Gerhart is due if kept for 2016.


QB Chad Henne - Surely the Jaguars can do better for their money here. Brock Osweiler, Sam Bradford, Kirk Cousins, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Chase Daniel, Drew Stanton, Michael Vick and Case Keenum are all set to hit free agency.


DE Andre Branch - While Branch finally made a few impressive plays as of late, there is such a thing as too little, too late. Branch is simply not a good fit for Bradley's scheme, and I see Caldwell letting the former Gene Smith draft pick walk.

Like I alluded to earlier, I can't even begin to count how many times this season I've seen a punt of his sail ten yards past the gunners--usually with good hangtime, sometimes not--into the arms of a returner more than happy to rip off a nice return. It seems that when he does try to take a little off his swing and float the ball instead of driving it, he comes up short. That's not to say that every punt is awful or that he's the worst punter ever, because he's not. A lot of that just comes from residual Gene hate. Remember when Anger was drafted and he would boom 60 yard punts sky high with 6 second hang times in camp? I've never heard a crowd ooh and aww over a punter before until that. His kicks literally just sounded different coming off his foot. What happened to that guy?

I'll break it down for you. The top punter in the league next year will probably make about the franchise tag amount near $4.5 mil. It drops from there. A borderline top 5 punter would make just over $3 mil per. A borderline top 10 punter about $2 mil per. A borderline top 15 punter about $1.5 mil. After the top 20 it's about minimum wage.


 

Anger is at least an average starting punter, or a borderline top 15, so he'll at least get $1.5 mil. He very well could get $2 mil per, but he's not about to command much more than that. The top punters are making over $2.5 mil.

Perfectly describes the Branch situation. I was pretty happy with him that year he nearly hit 10 sacks. We knew he was being schemed but the line was extremely dominant that year. I think Branch simply isn't a player that can produce without others producing around him. Those players are "just guys" and should be allowed to walk in favor of bringing in another guy to develop.

I had to do a discount doublecheck when I read "nearly hit 10 sacks." His one big season he had six sacks, and I suspect he'll never hit that number again.
