So all that talk of Yeldon being a first round talent wasn't fluff?

A beast for years to come? Killing me. We played the bills.

I said I'd consider it. Elliott looks like an elite talent, and Dave has struggled mightily early in the draft. We almost lost yesterday because Gerfart. If Yeldon goes down then we're back to passing 50+ times a game and averaging 30 yards rushing with 25 being from Bortles.

I'd rather sign a "proven" FA RB than draft another.

No way I'd draft a RB in the first 3 rounds. You can get a good power back in the rounds 4-7 and stick him behind Yeldon. Throw in DRob and you've got yourselves a very good stable of backs.

Proven like Gerhart and Pierce? To be fair, Pierce is clearly suffering from brain trauma, but we need DRob because we have nobody to spell for Yeldon

Good work by Thomas there.  Not bad for a guy that "can't block."

Is Yeldon a beast in cold weather, adverse conditions, a mudder? Unknown. However, doubtful because he is thin and not very good at breaking tackles.

It's a passing league people, backs have to hold leads, to take over when it's crappy and everyone knows a run is coming.

They have to break tackles consistently, reverse on a dime when a hole is blocked, and have durability after some big hits. They have to catch dump offs like faulk and make two men miss. I have never seen Yeldon do that. I haven't seen him be a passing threat.

So far he has looked pretty average to good,  against some really bad teams.

So a lot of unknown questions about Yeldon, but be impressed because he got 100 yards against the bills. Cake and Ice cream too?

When he gets his next 1.4 YPC game you all come back and talk about how special he is.

If we are satisfied with a back that plays well against bad teams, well he might be able to do that, but is he a pro bowl caliber back who is a piece that takes us to the next level by being a weapon everyone has to respect?

That has not been shown to me to date.

No offense but you have no idea what you are talking about

I wasn't skeptical OP, but carry on for others.  It's year 1 so everyone will keep their opinions broad in fear of being wrong, but the arrow is definitely up no question.

Not a threat in the passing game? He's 6th out of all rookies (RB, WR, TE) in receptions. He has more receptions than Indy's first round wide receiver.

Everyone loves to write off these young players. If Yeldon had started slow people would be calling him a bust already but he's started well so we have people pulling out stuff from nowhere. Not a threat in the passing game my backside. How are the Bills a bad team? Sure they have an average-poor offense (after injuries) but the defense is legit. They ranked 4th in the NFL in stopping the run before yesterday. He's not going to put up 100 yards every week as a rookie (not many do, Gurley is the exception but everyone knew he was going to be great, he'll wind up in the HOF when all is said and done).

He has the patience and vision of a veteran back., on the long td so many young backs would have tried to reverse field or do some sort of stepback but he calmly waited for the hole and then had the speed to exploit it.

In other words he good.

I may be in the minority here, but Yeldon doesn't have that WOW factor, at least not yet.  MJD/Freddie T had it immediately.  Maybe it's the o-line or the poor play on offense that is not allowing him to change the game or break away for a long gain.  He's solid though.

Edit: He is getting better every week.

He is a different type of back. He does not have their speed. They were both 4.3 40 guys coming out of college. The thing with Yeldon that impresses me the most is how he can avoid tackles.

MJD did have the luxury of backing up a very good RB as a rookie though. Yeldon has been thrown into the fire with only some scrubs backing him up most weeks.

MJD couldn't cut like Yeldon does, they're different styles of RB - I'd have loved to have seen them in a 1-2 punch.

Valid point, but don't you need that in a #1 back?

I agree with everything but this.  MJD was multi-talented.  He could make guys miss, out run them, and run over them.  He was a complete back.

Poor play on the line is exactly the reason.  Freddy T had a playoff roster as did MJD coming out.  No line means worse stats, but including that actually makes him look that much better than some think.  How many Yeldon like runs would be had behind this line by MJD who used power and less cut backs   Freddy T had great agility but thats a good comparison to be included in IMO.  It's year 1 on an improving line that was the WORST EVER last year so yeah, he's definitely good AT THE LEAST.

I remember Freddy T waiting, like TJ did, behind the line until something opened up somewhere.  It resulted in TFL sometimes but bad rbs don't have that type of talent to make positive yrds out of negative plays consistently.  He's a rook but i'll take that any draft when the oline is horrid.

I'm not saying MJD couldn't cut but Yeldon has one of the best cuts I've seen in years. It was the first thing that really impressed me about him in his early games.

I didnt like the pick either and wanted Coleman but he has proved me wrong. Looks like he will be an even better pro than a college player. Love the way he can make something out of nothing

Gurley looks to be in his own tier, followed by Yeldon who is in his own tier.  At this point, I'm glad SD took Gordon and not Yeldon.
