How serious is Marqise's hamstring injury?
|
Quote:Because you only get one of those and they used it on Rashad Greene? Which I said at the time was dumb and it remains dumb. Shouldn't have used that one spot for a rookie 5th round pick that early in the season. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! What's the difference if we used it on Greene or waited to use it on someone else. They're both still hurt but now at least only one is holding up a roster spot. One of these years.............

The difference is if you listed the relative importance of every player on the team, an unproven 5th round pick WR at a would not be very high on the list. Your three options with Greene would be to put him on IR for the year, put him on the IR designated to return, or to drop him injured and hope to get him to the practice squad. Which one would you have rather we done? One of these years.............
He prolly gonna die.
Or even worse.

Which one would you have rather we done? IR or keep him on the roster injured until you absolutely have to IR him. Quote:IR or keep him on the roster injured until you absolutely have to IR him. keeping him on the roster takes up a roster spot on the 53 just the same as keeping Lee on the 53. I can understand IR for the whole season if that's your stance, but they want him back to see what he can do in a couple of weeks. Frankly, I'm just about done with Lee. If he can't be healthy enough to play more than 1 or 2 games in a row, he's better off not being on the active roster. One of these years.............
Honestly I think it has something to do with they warmup/stretch. Stretch being the key word. As an active cyclist it's important stretch really well before and AFTER I go riding. Hamstrings injuries straight suck when trying to do anything active. I have really easy to pull quad muscles from 13 years of not stretching before I played rigorous games of soccer. So I have to be careful. It's all about stretching. I'm a firm believer in it.
You either die as a good poster, or live long enough to become the troll.
Quote:IR or keep him on the roster injured until you absolutely have to IR him. That nets you the exact same result. An injured player holding up a roster spot. If you believe there are better odds of Lee returning sooner than Greene, then it would be the wise decision to keep Lee on the 53 man roster. There is still a lot of season left to play. If it is possible to get these young players some valuble experience this year, then the best decision for the long term is to keep them available. We show less advertisements to registered users. I just don't agree with using it on a relatively unimportant player, 1 week into the season. Quote:Someone should have told that to Derek Cox, Zack Miller Mike Sims-Walker, and Cecil Shorts..Well its a good thing that the Cowboys used that logic on Jimmy Smith back in 1992. they got rid of him because he was a fast talented 2nd rounder with enormous potential... that for 2 years couldn't stay healthy. I'd hate to cut lee just to watch someone else take a flier on him and tear it up like when he won the Biletnikoff award at USC. getting rid of him just to get rid of him is asinine. show me someone on the street with half as much talent that we could be better served using the roster spot on. I'll be here. we're not making a SB run this year might as well give him more time to get healthy and see what happens
Championship Formula:
1) Draft Trevor Lawrence! 2) Play good physical Defense! 3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy! 4) ??? 5) Blank #2 6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
Hamstrings for football players are ridiculously difficult injuries to deal with. For one, mild ones are only truly felt when you are making football actions and moves, especially those used by a fast-twitch or deep threat WR. They are notoriously will worsen if you play on them too soon and with the forces on hamstring, they are not an injury that builds up but more one that a sudden movement/jerk can cause a injury.
On top of all that depends on how a particular person heals, some people deal with minimal inflammation and scar tissue build up and some people do not. In patient with auto-immune conditions, those are in overdrive all the time. For some people they are in overdrive after injury and can create really pronounced scars called keloids. The only way medically to limit excess inflammation or scarring is with steroids -- which are not generally allowed. The reason why the inflammation/scarring is important is because more of it can cause pain and tweaks in the recovery process. Some of those can be normal healing. But when players/trainers/etc. are dealing with big injury like a hamstring, they do not want to risk it being a re-injury and just assume it is inflammation. Then on top of that, when that particular muscle or group is healed, the rest of the limb often has less strength and is not particularly balanced which can predispose someone to more injuries. Quote:OR he's just a wuss I'm not sure what hamstring injuries have to do with being a wuss? It isn't a pain tolerance thing. We show less advertisements to registered users. You don't permanantly IR players you are trying to develop when they have the opportunity to play a significant portion of the season. If you just IR him, you risk losing on developing him and you also risk wasting your designated IR spot. There is no crystal ball to predict who may get injured that may be better suited for the spot.

Its pathetic every time a player is injury prone here people bring up Jimmy Smith and Fred Taylor. Heard it a million times in the defense of Derek Cox and Cecil Shorts. You're right, injury prone players the Jags let go went on and became beasts with other teams. |
