CB the # 1 priority for 2017 Free Agency?

Quote:Caldwell said in his presser he's letting Prince and Cyp test the market.
Yes - I caught that too.

That's OK with me.
  • Amukamara will be overpaid
  • Cyp will be overpaid
  • There are FA upgrades to both players hitting the market and we have $$
  • There are some attractive options in rounds 1-3 at both positions that could play well right away.

Still lots of options including re-signing either of those guys.

I think this is also an indicia that on some level, they have to be okay with the idea of drafting one of those positions at 4.

Edit:  Somehow I missed that last bullet,  Yeesh!  Mea culpa, folks.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Quote:Huh? Norman was established as Carolina's lockdown corner for at least 2 years prior to being shipped out. In 2014 and 2015 he combined for 30 PD and 6 interceptions. He was far from a "one year wonder."
To be fair, while Bouye had limited snaps before last year the ones he did have were graded very well too.

I'm fine with letting Cyp and Amukamara walk. I wanted to really make a run at Tony Jefferson and this draft is loaded at both CB and Strong Safety.

Blake needs to get on the phone with Bouye and recruit his old teammate.

I think Bouye is overrated but better than Prince and I like the idea of taking away players from Houston

Gilmore probably pairs the best on the opposite side of Ramsey . We would have a very Physical DB group

We need a CB who creates turnovers. Ramsey is a lockdown corner, now we need a "ballhawk" to play opposite him.

How about Marcus Cooper? I wan't to stay away from Gilmore and Bouye . The money is going to be outrageous and they are not premier players. Cooper offers somewhat of the ballhawk mentality at a much better price

It may be best to resign prince actually. They could strike out in free agency

I'm gonna be honest. I know very little about Cooper.

He may be cheaper than those two - but he won't be a bargain by any stretch either coming off of four picks and a pro-bowl alt vote.

Arians on re-signing him:

“I’d like to get Coop back,” coach Bruce Arians said at the NFL combine. “It looks like Coop is going to get a helluva lot of money. Y’all keep saying Coop’s no good; he was a Pro Bowl alternate, had four interceptions. It looks like the price is going up pretty high for him, so we’ll wait and see.”

I just saw the Steelers only gave Cockrell the original pick RFA tender, that's really surprising. He's worth a 4th round pick all day long if we fail to get Bouye or Gilmore.

I think the Steelers would still match at that rate but I like this line of thinking

Yes, they could match. It might be a tough choice with them tagging Bell and giving Brown the biggest WR contract in history though.

I wonder why people keep saying he's no good.

I admit I know nothing about him,

Quote:The tinhorns' play-by-play guy was talking to Frangie today on the radio and mentioned that fans there are concerned about the Jags signing Bouye away and adding him to a divisional defense that is clearly ascending.

Would be nice to short them and round out our secondary in one swoop.

That's interesting, because as we have learned, Coughlin has always liked the idea of signing free agents from other teams in the same division.   Sort of adding one to us, subtracting one from them at the same time.
