Caldwell= Gene Smith 2.0?

#41

Caldwell's biggest mistake was hiring Gus Bradley.  With passing on Bridgewater for Bortles as a possibility (we'll see at the end of the year).

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Quote:Sorry TED, but the Gene's Myth era was over 3 years ago.

We're looking exactly as we did 4 years ago.

There's been no improvement, even with the talent aquisition...

So to me, we've moved past Jean Smiff...  It's the coaching staff that is the issue to me.

Maybe that's what you're saying?  We had a huge gut job 4 years ago.  And we know have pretty much a new group of young talent.  What has not changed is the lack of offensive production.  To me, it seems like it's not the GM that's holding us back.  It's the HC.

^^This the Gene Smith excuse has run its course this is Caldwells team top to bottom

Yeah, hiring decisions shouldn't be made on how harmonious they make the room. Caldwell needed to get a strong coach that would make him second guess all of his moves instead of taking a pat you on the back nice guy that always lights up the room with his big smile.

If the old saying "Players not plays" holds true, then Caldwell needs to be fired.

I did not like the play calling today I understand you want to establish the run but sometimes you need to not rely on it as much

they should of used the pass to open up the run. When you run on 1st and 2nd down you are taking the ball out of the QBs hand that much you are bound to fail

Play calling was atrocious

The Gene Smith era was over three years ago, but we're still feeling effects from it.  Caldwell has had to put a team together with what scraps he could scrape together, and three drafts (and of course our first round pick from this year is out for the year, and our top FA Acquisition is also out for 1/4 of the season).

Don't mistake this as me saying Caldwell is doing a good job.  So far, he is not.  But we're still feeling the effects from the Gene Smith era.  Four years of drafts in which only maybe ONE Player (who Caldwell traded away)  was worth much.  Okay, two counting our weapon Bryan Anger.  And few good FA acquisitions on top of that (and those that are, are aging).  That's not going to be something that's erased in three years.  That doesn't mean we couldn't be good now with much better decisions.  But the Gene Smith era would still be felt even if we were 1-0 right now celebrating a big win over the Panthers in a whomping.  Missing that many draft picks will be felt by any team.  Caldwell just hasn't lessened it enough yet.

Fowler is a horrible pick, he was a role player at Florida now he's got a bumb knee. Cooper should've been the pick and everyone knows it. But Caldwell is a needs drafter and we NEEDED a pass rusher, he probably didn't even get the best pass rusher.

Caldwell better find a LT on the LT tree quickly, or this season is going to get real ugly.

A role player? Stop it with that nonsense.

Quote:This is a do or die year for Gus. I think Caldwell's done a nice job of turning over the roster and Gus has done nothing to coach them up. I've tried to think of a player-friendly, upbeat, positive coach in NFL history who's done well and I can't think of one outside of Pete Carroll and even he's on his 3rd stop before he's had success.

We need a butt kicking, offensive-minded coach to lead this team.

Quote:He has had much higher picks than Gene and His players just aren't performing anywhere near their draft value.  He also had done questionable things like pass on Amari Cooper when the team is lackin so much on the offensive side.

He may not as reach as much as Gene but his track record is even worse.  Wow this roster looks like garbage from top to bottom after 3 years and tons of cap space.  Khan maybe have to tear this whole thing down again and rebuild.  Caldwell and Bradley are not leading this team in the right direction.

This team has averaged less than 17 points a game the last 3 years.  Pathetic.
I understand not being happy with the performance of Dave's picks so far, but Dave would have to go a l o n g way to even begin to be in the same category as Gene Smith. We have been bad for so long largely due to recovering from what Gene did, not what Dave has done.

Me too! I didn't think that would be the case at the time of his firing though.

Why would he have to go a long way? We are just as bad now as we were under Jeans Miff. We may look better, but statistically we are an almost exact replica.

We had more wins under Jean Smiff. Choke on that pill awhile.

Okay, this has officially caused OPs brain to break. On a day like today, I get being a bit whiny, but in no universe is Caldwell or any other GM worse than Gene Smith was.

We scored 9 points today and continue to be a bottom feeder team. This is Dave's roster.  Period

We need to hire Trump as our next GM. He could make deals that will truly benefit the team. Nobody makes better deals than The Donald. Plus we get to hear him say, "Gus.....ya fired!"
