Stephen Morris and Jeremiah George claimed on waivers

Quote:Doesn't really matter that he got cut, they're both bad. They wanted a veteran with knowledge, but Morris played better this pre-season in my opinion.
Well unfortunately for Morris, looking mediocre against the lowest level of competition the NFL can field against you isn't going to move you up anyone's depth chart.

Then its a miracle that Henne still has a job.

Obviously the people that get to fully evaluate him and who have kept him employed for the last 8 years think different.

At this point it must just be cruelty that gets teams like the Eagles signing him.

Henne is a horrible backup.

Quote:wow Morris over Tebow lol, and no surprise by George

I imagine this is because Tebow can't complete a pass. This much became readily apparent if you watched him at all this preseason.

Quote: :thanks: Thanks but I didn't post this comment because I "hate" Henne. I posted it because of the play of Morris as evidenced by Philly picking him up. We developed him on the PS and now another team will benefit. As per the play of BB5 while adding good health, Morris would serve just as good of an replacement...

Remember, w/o hating, if Henne was much better then he'd be the starter prior to BB5. Henne is like Tebow, he's inconsistent...

NEVERTHELESS, I appreciate the nomination...

NH3...

I wouldn't say Henne is just like Tebow. Tebow can't complete a pass. Henne can't complete a pass over 15 yards. That's a considerable difference.

Depends if Good Henne or Bad Henne plays.

While I continue to back Caldwell, this decision just makes me scratch my head. I'm sure he sees what we see, but I guess it just comes down to he knows the system and players, etc., and he's not seeing anyone he feels is a considerable upgrade. Regardless I'd make a move. Matt Cassel is now available and flat out is the better option with enough experience that it shouldn't take him long to jell with receivers and learn the system. I'm rather shocked actually that nobody has signed him yet. Meanwhile, the Falcons waived TJ Yates who is another great option to develop behind Bortles, as is Christian Ponder, formerly of the Raiders and Vikings, who is well accustomed to the heat and humidity from his days at FSU.

I wouldn't call any of the players that you listed a "considerable upgrade" to be the backup.  At best Matt Cassel is another Chad Henne.

Matt Flynn is an upgrade.

I think that by this time next year, if bb5 has performed well. we will not be in the market for a young qb to be groomed. we can expect bb5 to be the man for 7 to 10 years which means we will want a " step in and manage games now qb if bb5 is injured" qb. could be henne...or some other mediocre vet backup.

It's this sort of thinking that makes losers of so many franchises. There should be no heed at all paid to the idea of bringing in someone that can "manage games" because if Bortles goes down for an extended period the season is pretty much over anyway. The attention must be paid to efforts to make the team around Bortles as a starting unit good enough to keep him from getting hurt to start with. All backup QB selections should be made with Rob Johnson type deals in mind. Get young guys, groom them, see if you can sucker a team into trading a high pick for them, and get more guys to make Bortles better.

Did you watch his last game? He threw 2 TD passes and a nice 40 yrd bomb downfield to the receiver. Henne could only dream of that

I never quite looked at it this way. TJ Yates might actually fit this bill. I can totally see Blake going down and him having a monumental Rob Johnson type of game down the road.

No, I don't watch the 4th preseason games outside of the Jaguars as all the players are backups. But I watched just about every snap from Tebow over the first three weeks. In those games he was a flat out embarrassment.

It's already too late to sucker a team with Yates, he's got too much film. More like Cousins after his rookie season. The Skins should have traded him for as much as they could get for him at that point. The key to winning games with the backup is having a roster strong enough to win with bad QB play, like the texans have been doing for years. Henne is pointless as a player. On this team his strongest asset appears to be that Bortles likes having him around as a buddy. As a player he clearly won't even manage the Jaguars to any wins, and he'll never have trade value.

^^^I'll nominate this as the best comment about Henne to date.
