Kam Chancellor would be incredible here.  I would gladly trade a 3rd, 6th from Scobee, and maybe even a future 3rd to get him.

 

He would be worth it.

One thought about why it might be too risky for the Jaguars to trade for Kam Chancellor.  Being that Chancellor is already 27 with plenty of wear and tear,  by the time the Jags are positioned as a consistent Super Bowl contender,  Chancellor's value might be substantially less.  

 

Though a contract extension probably wouldn't hurt the Jags because of the team's excellent salary cap situation,  the trade compensation could ultimately set the team back.   At the very least,  it's something for the Jags brass to weigh.

Why trade away a valuable pick and player for someone who will most likely be a free agent at the end of the year? You don't overpay for someone like that because they are trying to get rid of him. They either gonna have to pay him or let him test FA because they need to resign Irvin, Kam and Okung. And can only Franchise Tag 1. So the post lacks irrelevance. But one can only dream I suppose.

Any player can be had. But it might cost an arm, a leg, and your first born child.


The Hawks hold ALL the cards in this one. They can choose to play hard ball let him sit and not pay him anything. He has 3 years left on his deal. He has to eventually show up by week 10 for him to accrue a year so he has no choice but to show up right when the Hawks are making their mid-season push.


If they decide to trade him, again it's on their terms. There's no rush or pressure to move him. They can sit back and entertain offers for the next 3 years if they so choose until they get the one that they deem worthy.

Well they just traded FOR Kelcie McCray so there may be some merit to this

 

Kelcie McCray is a former UDFA, who has played for 3 different NFL teams in 3 years and has ZERO career starts. Our FO might be using this trade to make clear to Kam that there is no way his contract will be addressed, but in no way McCray is a replacement for Kam Chancellor.

 

I don't know much about McCray and maybe he'll turn out good, but for now he's just a depth move, who can apparently play both safety positions (remember that Earl Thomas is also just returning after injury and may not be 100% yet at start of the season) and Ive also read he's a great special team player.

A second or third rd pick for a player causing his current team drama should be more than enough to get him.

His current deal has three (3) years remaining on it.

 

The Jaguars' longstanding practice is not to rework a deal that has more than one year remaining (see MJD).

 

In order to trade for Chancellor, the team would have to rework his deal.

 

While he undoubtedly is a scheme fit and would upgrade the secondary, reworking his deal with more than a year remaining would set a bad, and destabilizing precedent.
