Colvin

All 3 will be on the field like 70% of the time. I don't see an issue here.

Quote:McCray is good and very technical but he isnt a play maker like Colvin, but good we have both

McCray isn't supposed to make plays.  He's supposed to erase the wide receiver from that side of the field.  Ideally the quarterback doesn't even look that way.

Corners like Revis and R Mathis could shadow, jump routes, and attack the ball.  McCray and House aren't of that mold and they fit in the system we are running.  With Colvin these three will be on the field the majority of the time which is a good thing.

Bradley has repeatedly said he wants the corners to make more plays.

Which is why Colvin in the starting lineup outside makes so much sense.  Then shifting inside on nickel packages.

Come on now.  I have never heard of a player not supposed to be making plays.

Well ok then... I guess I agree.

Just a bonus, not part of the scheme.  Just like Red Bryant at the 5 tech strong side end spot.  He is there to clog the lane and seal the run.  Any pass rushing is a bonus.  We've 'upgraded' to Odrick who can seal the run, clog lanes, and occasionally rush the passer.  It's not critical we have that extra pass rush (look at the success of our pass rush last year without it) but it sure is nice to have.  Same thing goes for McCray and House, of course Bradley wants to see them defend more passes, but any throw to them is a win for Bradley's scheme.

He worded that poorly (I think), but his point still stands somewhat. If McCray isn't being targeted due to great coverage consistently, he isn't going to be in position to make many plays because he's not being thrown at. One could argue that, in and of itself, is making plays [go to the other side of the field].

Thanks, that was my meaning.  Being on an island is good for the rest of the defense, simplifies the coverage and narrows the field, therefore allowing everyone to play faster.

You could also argue that no one targeted McCray because the other corner was falling down half the time.

And also that no one targeted McCray because the middle of the field was soooooooooooo easy to attack.

Scroll down to see Colvin today on AR15 in the end zone.

Quote:What plays has Colvin made on the ball besides picking up Gratz's fumble?

That's one more play than McCray has ever made in two full years.

CAREER stats:

McCray - 13 starts (32 games played,) zero big plays, zero ints, zero TDs, 5 passed defended, 51 tackles 10 assists

Colvin - 1 start (6 games played,) 1 fumble recovery for TD, 2 passes defended, 23 tackles 4 assists

Starting to sink in yet?

Look at the production in a fraction of the playing time.  It's obvious who the difference maker is.  Night and day.

There's a higher ceiling than shutting down Dez Bryant? :o

Cornerback is the one position in the nfl where stats is misleading. Just look at Darrele Revis his int/game isn't great his ff/fr per game isn't nor his tackles. But his undoubtedly the best corner in the game, the reason why his stats are so low? People don't throw his way.

On stats alone Sherman is night and day ahead of revis, but do stats take Into account how much zone Sherman plays where's he's facing the cb to make the pick? No? Do they take into account he only plays one side? No.

McCrays potentially if he develops upon last year is as a shutdown corner.

Colvins is as a ballhawk.

2 different type of corners completely. I for one would love them both to start..

Please tell me people aren't comparing McCray to Darrelle freaking Revis.

I like McCray too, but c'mon.

The comparison isn't as offensive as Derek Cox to Revis, but still...

Why are we even arguing between McCray and Colvin. Everything I've seen is that they both look like starting CB's to me.

I hope House isn't getting inserted as a starter just because he was brought in during FA for a good amount of money. Maybe House should come off the bench when Colvin bumps inside on nickel downs. Can we let the guys have true competition and let the best guys be the "starters." Even though they will all play plenty.

That's the thing. I completely agree with that.

Regardless of who's the "starters" House and McCray will play outside when Colvin is at Nickel. And he'll probably play there a lot, I'm going to assume he'll be at nickel most of the time since we'll regularly have 3 DBs out there

Colvin is our best CB just like ARob is our best WR. Yes, sometimes stats are misleading but you can just watch Colvin and see he's our best.

Yes it is obvious. The 7th round pick from App state who hasn't had much chance to make big plays because he's been shutting down his receiver.
