Special Teams a key?

Quote:I hope Scobee's performance last year was an aberration, and not an indicia of declining skills. For now, I'm pinning most of Scobee's struggles on the blocking. Knowing that you're going to have a face full of rushers much more quickly than usual has to affect a kicker's timing and motions. Scobee's a pro kicker and should have been able to work through a lot of that, but I have a hard time blaming him if he really was rushing kicks a bit because he didn't trust the line. If he struggles again this year behind an improved line, then we need to talk about declining skills. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:When you get to return as many kickoffs as he did, being third in total yards isn't hard to accomplish.Todman got replaced because they were still looking for a starting RB and they had seen enough of him to know he wasn't going to fit that bill. Developing teams don't have the luxury to have players on the roster just for special teams when so many starting positions are unsettled.

Dan Skuta was a standout ST contributor. I wonder if he'll get ST action if he starts on defense?
Quote:Can the same be said for Jennings and Forsett? 'Theyre just not good enough to be our starting rb?'Based on their performance here, they decided to go in a different direction. They weren't keeping them around for special teams.
Quote:At least three, though I seem to recall Anger had a second punt "deflected," which technically doesn't count as a block. I recall it was seven. That includes "deflections" and bad snaps, which aren't recorded as blocks. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" Developing teams don't have the luxury to have players on the roster just for special teams when so many starting positions are unsettled.Even on a developing team, a guy doesn't have to be a future starter to stick. There are only 22 starters and 3 specialists, which leaves room for 28 other players. If a guy is truly a special teams ace or a stud return man, it's not too hard to justify keeping him around with one of those 28 spots, especially if the decision to go without a fullback has opened up a potential fifth spot at running back. I'm not going to continue arguing this with you, just saying that if Todman really was as spectacular a kick returner as you want him to be, the team would have made some effort to keep him, either with a tender or with a lower offer, instead of just letting him walk. I just pointed out that when Todman began moving down the depth chart he was let go. The team was content to go with players who they thought may have the potential to compete for starting jobs or significant playing time to fill those special teams positions. The fact is the jags have not brought in players just for their ability on special teams since the rebuild began. There are no established special teams players like Owens, Osgood, or Sorenson being brought in or being kept on the roster right now. There is nothing to debate, this is a fact of our roster make up at this time. Will this change in the future? Most likely, but the roster is what it is at this point.
You know what is key to winning, TEAMWORK.
The guys have to stop carring solely about themselves, and care about the unit as a whole. Quote:You know what is key to winning, TEAMWORK. Ya. Carring is bad. These guys have to stop doing that.
Success is a journey, not a destination. Go all out Mighty Jaguars.
