A Closer look at Allen Hurns
|
As it stands right now, I would take Hurns over Lee.
Did I miss something? What did Lee do last year? Hey, I'm hoping I am wrong, and Lee can step it up, but Hurns is proven where Lee is still a question mark. Lee is small, and not quite fast enough to be what it seemed he was intended to be. But the jury is still out, as it is with a number of our young players. Hurns on the other hand is a playmaker. On this team, nothing further needs to be said. I still can not believe the flak that was generated on this board with his falling catch. He made the catch for crying out loud!! And it wasn't an easy one at all. And it was an important one too. I'm a Hurns fan to be sure. He played hard, and played hurt. He was there when we needed him. A-Rob is gonna be great, he's a gamer too. Lee may have gamer qualities, but I haven't seen it yet with any consistency. Lee would be returning punts if it were up to me. I like Hurns but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's proven.
An arguement can be made that he leveled off or even regressed as the season went along, whereas Lee clearly progressed. I'd say they ended the season relatively even. And Lee is not really that small.
I'm keeping Hurns, but I wouldn't just waive Lee; I'd find a way to trade him. He should still command a third round pick.

If he is worth a third, then we would be complete morons to trade him in the first place. Quote:Who on earth trades a player going into their 2nd season? We're answering the opening post.

What people fail to realize he had to play against top corners in the league in his first year. Cause both robinson and lee couldn't stay healthy. As the number three guy he creates mismatches all day.

The questions they pose for Allen Hurns is if he will continue to impress with a new OC and playbook as he knew the one from college with his old OC, and like all of the Jaguars WRs can he remain healthy & continue to improve on his craft.
Based on what we watched last season, he has the talent to compete for a starting role and projected to be opposite of Allen Robinson due to Lee's injury & poor performance - according to Rotoworld. Great point.. if Hurns has difficulty due to the new OC, odds are we would need a new OC. Hurns has shown he can do it, it is the OC's job to utilize his talent. If the OC doesn't have the skill to design plays that get this or that guy in the open, get a new one. Quote:Great point.. if Hurns has difficulty due to the new OC, odds are we would need a new OC. Hurns was able to play on instinct...play without thinking and without hesitation...at least a lot less than the other guys because he already knew the offense. He knew the terminology, etc. He only had to adjust in the physical differences between college and pro level CBs, and the college level and pro level defenses/coverages. If he struggles to learn the offense (where the other two rookies did last year), that isn't necessarily a poor reflection on Olson. What if Olson gets more production out of Lee and Robinson? What if there is more production from the QB, RB and TE position? If Hurns is the only player that has a drop off, and every other position on offense is improved, then why should the OC have to go? I have my concerns with Olson. But I won't automatically say that if Hurns struggles to learn the offense, that and that alone is sufficient cause for Olson to be canned. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
At the very least try Lee as a Kick Returner before getting rid of him.
Watching him at USC, he was outstanding returning kicks. Quote:At the very least try Lee as a Kick Returner before getting rid of him. I know it's the dead zone, but how did this become "a thing?" Why in the world would the Jags have even the slightest interest in parting with a promising young receiver that they'll have on the cheap for three more years?? I find it odd that the discussion morphed into somehow choosing between the receivers on the roster. I think this staff has big plans for Lee as a Jaguar and I think he has a good chance at paying off for them. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I don't remember a lot of Hurns' catches off broken coverage.
First game against Philly he had 2 TDs against a zone defense (good throws by Henne) and he had a catch later in the game where he did a double move and caught the ball down the sideline for like 35 yards. I just remember his shaking a lot of dudes with double moves...he made the plays broken for the defense. Loved his ability to improvise with Blake as he was scrambling. Saw that a bunch. I like Hurns a lot. He's part of the core.
Shock the world
Quote:I know it's the dead zone, but how did this become "a thing?" Might as well get rid of ARob while we're at it. Try him on ST first though.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS
Quote:As the number three guy he creates mismatches all day. I love this logic. He would smoke a #3 cb. I think that will be his nitch Kinda like Barlow in the 90s

That was his only niche. ![]() Quote:Either I'm misunderstanding or being whooshed, but about the only thing Barlow did well was returns. That was his only niche.Haha! Made me look... Barlow had a grand total of 39 receptions during his 8 years in the league. Lots of kickoff and punt returns tho.
The closest comparison to Allen Hurns is Jason Avant when he was with the Eagles. Smart, instinctive, and gets open. He's a great find for an undrafted free agent. He'll probably carve out a nice career as a 40 catch, 500 yard guy
